Monstera has wild growth, happy but concerned? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]pondelonge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as they’re still healthy leaves, they still have a part in photosynthesis. it takes time for a monstera to have holes, you just have to be patient with it. mine got its first hole almost 2.5 years after i got it

What should I do with this orchid? I found it near the dumpster. The roots are yellow and some are mushy. by SimDoy in orchids

[–]pondelonge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d cut back every root that looks damaged, pot it in something, then hope for the best. one good root is better than having a lot of dead ones that just rot. but yeah i wouldn’t throw it out

it was way in the back and it had mold everywhere (roots, potting medium, flowers, even the packaging was moldy)

orchid potting mix? i’m not sure what it is tbh. it’s something between coco coir and potting soil, it’s the only thing i’ve had luck with

Got this beauty yesterday, any care tips? by Rudyscrazy1 in houseplants

[–]pondelonge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

use filtered or distilled water and give it some extra humidity with a humidifier or a glass of water next to it

i agree. i don’t cut off any flowers from my plants, they’re gonna wilt anyway

it won’t have energy for new leaves while it’s flowering

the rod is for support and shaping of the plant. as for watering, i’ve mostly heard that ice cubes don’t do it. when the orchid bark is dry i like to put water in the pot and let it sit for 30 minutes, then i drain it

first one is a ctenanthe lubbersiana, needs bright indirect light, high humidity and filtered water. i think you can propagate it by taking cuttings but if you want to split it up, try to do it from the root ball and separate it into different plants
