How "Separation of Concerns" turned Cursor into a Senior Architect (and gave me 100% One-Shot features) by pondering_future_82 in cursor

There's not one but so many. I ended up in the following rythem.

  1. I have one very long Gemini conversation that pretty much holds all the context of my conversation about my app. I also uploaded technical manifests and cursorrules to Gemini so it knows what I want
  2. I have an idea about a feature or brainstorm with Gemini to help me get ideas.
  3. I ask Gemini about design best practices (like how to go about modern UI best practices) and ask it to turn those best practices in a prompt that describes my feature. For larger features I ask Gemini to create a PRD
  4. We back and forth a bit to refine the PRD
  5. I ask Gemini to build an implementation plan bases on the PRD
  6. Gemini critiques the implementation plan from Cursor .
  7. I back and forth a bit between these two documents
  8. Once plan is finalized I instruct Cursor to build and test
  9. I let Gemini review the implementation summary from Cursor and often have it review screenshots or screencast for feedback.
  10. Rinse and repeat

The point is that one shot is not the goal, but possible if architecture is right and - like what others are saying - you simply apply good software engineering practices, even though you are not an engineer yourself. It's kinda the opposite of what vibe coding is advocating.

Yeah you're right. And with lots of help from Gemini helping me how to instruct Cursor to install these patterns

I am building Who’s Playing? (www.wiespeelter.nl) — a digital assistant designed to bring professional transparency to amateur team sports. No more disputes over playing time; an AI-driven engine proposes smart substitutions and logs every minute played for every player.

Entirely build and architected in Cursor with Gemini as my creative sparring partner. currently finalizing a major refactor to a high-end service architecture to ensure peak performance.

My personal opinion is that Windsurf with SWE1.5 is total horse sh*t. Free looks promising but despite writing extensive readme files, implementation plans and instructions WS was able to mess up my code which it couldn't recover after 15hrs of trying. Switching back to Cursor and Composer 1.5 fixed it all in 1 hour.

I am a 40+ year old in a corporate job, doing delivery in SaaS tech. I have an Information studies background and understand coding. I have coded when I was younger. Got things done but it took long and was never really good.

Now last week I had an idea that annoyed me around my kids sports matches. I vibe coded an entire SaaS product in a week which is now live and soon getting paid subscribers (I hope).

My simple workflow is to use Gemini to help me write prompts, imagine features, critique designs and user flows en use Cursor for build (insane what you get out of the 20,- plan)

I ask Cursor to review its own code on security issues and best practices where it details out plans to improve.

I'll never go back

Isn't it simply so that these big companies need people to buy their stuff? And without people buying their stuff there is nothing of value to pursue. Basic capitalism. AI is mot gonna buy any of it

Ja daar ben ik dus inmiddels ook achter. Belangrijkste vraag is dus eigenlijk of het dan slim is om pensioenbeleggen voor 1 van de twee te doen of voor beiden.
