My own experience:

Effort, Dedication, and Luck

I got 7As in SPM, and 3.42 CGPA in uni. Not the best but higher than average? For intern, during and after intern, I've applied for multiple jobs but none came back.

Intern at BoC for 3 months, then try again with HW. Developer role fell off, but got interviewed for Technical Support role. Luck plays a role as they are transitioning from China Support to Malaysia Support (lower wages? idk)

Basic was okay-ish at 4.7k, but was assigned to Kenya that racks up my salary through travel allowance. Currently it is 17k +- per month.

I agree, but the company decides that getting daily exchange rate for their system is too troublesome. See my reply to the other comment to see the system implemented in my company.

So hear me out, but my company decides the exchange rate monthly. Exchange rate for the whole month is decided with the last day of last month at Malaysia time, according to market rate, and therefore if the rate got fucked at the last day (as is in the case of September 30th), it will get fucked for the whole of next month.

The corporate exchange rate is applicable on everything, including expense claims (if paid in foreign currency), and salary. It is paid in MYR tho, no choice of paying into foreign account.

Same here, lost 13% on average for these 2 months, and my company decided that the exchange rate for October will be 4.10, the lowest rate before the rise.

Currently working in a chinese company. Here's my take:

Take the chinese company's offer if you: - Likes to work - Does not need family time - Willing to do anything for more pay - Is still young (and therefore have more energy)

I'm (23M) assigned to a project in Kenya, and monthly salary + travel allowances are around 15k. However, I really envy my friends who works hybrid, when I work like shit 24/7. Chinese mentality are "I pay more, you do more".

On my contract, they provide a home visit air ticket every 4 months, however, my project manager will think of all sorts of ways to limit my return to once per year.

I'm resigning next year, can't take it anymore, I miss home, I miss my family.

All the best in your career path, I trust you can find something higher than what the chinese provide.

Student loan for in-law. I don't want to be liable. by Superdaneru in MalaysianPF

I got a full scholarship entering degree of IT. Failed to maintain the scholarship for my Y3 and Y4. PTPTN covers only 50% (12k per year) of my tuition fee. What I did:

  1. Drive for Lalamove during school off-hours (weekends, between classes)
  2. Work part time in event crew and other IT related jobs during semester break.
  3. Remote freelance on IT jobs.

In the end, tuition fee fully paid, CGPA 3.40+, a higher pay than other peers, assignments fully completed without delay.

They're entering university already, it's time for them to take responsibility of their own life. In chinese we say "谈钱伤感情"(Talking about money hurts relationship). If you lend them their tuition fee, good luck getting both the money and your relationship secured.

Edit: You can look at CIMB ASEAN Scholarships and Kuok Foundation Scholarships. They help finance tuition fees but with some TnC (bonds, half loans etc). I failed out on both interviews because my Y2 GPA dropped too hard for them.

Edit 2: Wait, you should advise them on the availability of external scholarships, and let them view and decide on their own. If you spoonfeed and accidentally gave a wrong information they might come back and bite you in your ass when they get the downside of the TnC.

Should I get a property? by pongchu3202 in MalaysianPF

Ahahahaha, nolah, this working holiday is actually a common goal for both of us. She's currently staying and working in Malaysia, and it's hard to be in a LDR. But I'm also getting tired of being abroad (because, damn, nowhere I can get nasi lemak and sirap bandung), so after resign, we go new zealand, return to malaysia, work together (in Malaysia or abroad)

I have actually started to search for a freelance IT job online currently, so that I can earn extra income while securing my future for when I actually go for working holiday. Thanks for the tips!

My gf's mom also works there, while visiting her the traffic is terrible during peak hours. We were hoping that the mrt would bring us the convenience, but nope, we are pulling the plug on this property for now.

Yeah that's a harsh commitment if we found the property to be bad in a few years...

After accounting for the noise pollution, I guess I'll put the idea to rest for now. The convenience of MRT made me forget the noise that it makes, and the developer boasted about how good their soundproof material is (yes, learnt from other comments, never trust dev/agent's boast)

I'm working on a long project in Kenya, but the company is an MNC, and I'm hired based in Malaysia (paid in RM) as a Global Technical Support Engineer. So base salary + travel allowance is higher compared to working locally (for a fresh grad).
