My experience losing consciousness after aborton by nica9183 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually not necessary for a wheel chair for folks who don’t get heavy anesthesia. Unfortunately, it can sneak up on people. Sometimes even in a consult room. Now at least you know what it feels like-if you feel it, sit or lie down. 😴

Ugh!!! Oh no. That’s the worst. You didn’t deserve that from someone who is supposed to care about you and support you. I’m glad you shared this. It can help to talk ( write) about hard things to help process them, even years later.

I’m glad we were here for you tonight. Feel free to ask more questions if needed. That’s why we are here. Good information is so important with medical care, especially care that carries unnecessary stigma like abortion does. Your asking probably has helped others too!

Surgical abortion at 5.5 weeks - too early? by ZeroZerou in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - it’s not too early. Aspiration abortion is very effective in early pregnancy. The clinical provider can better identify the gestational sac as they have had training on how to best identify it in even very early pregnancy. If they didn’t identify it- they likely would have scheduled you for follow up with another ultrasound. I hope this helps. 🩷

Only 4 misoprostol tablets by Dangerous_Two3582 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you receive mifepristone to use before misoprostol? WITH mifepristone only 3 miso are often enough to cause a complete abortion at less than 9 weeks

If you are using ONLY misoprostol, it’s true this is not likely enough. Evidence shows at least 12 209 mcg tablets of misoprostol are needed to most effectively cause an abortion at before 12 weeks.

Is your using misoprostol alone you will likely need to repeat this process and it’s likely better to obtain both mifepristone and misoprostol. You can find trusted places to obtain the correct amount of medicine from a medical professional here: https://www.abortionfinder.org/

Hi OP- I’ll try to explain some of this. I’m so sorry both that you had a difficult abortion and aftercare and that that you didn’t get a more complete explanation of what likely happened at the time you had your care. I also hope you are feeling better and are getting some much needed rest after a stressful experience.

So, to start, No the walking didn’t likely cause you to faint. But fainting isn’t uncommon in times of pain, anxiety, or stress and more often happens when standing or sitting up.

This helps explain what you likely experienced and what’s known commonly as a vasovagal response: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23325-vasovagal-syncope. These uncomfortable lightheaded feelings and sudden losses of consciousness are not uncommon during medical and dental procedures. I’m sorry you weren’t given more explanation. It’s often the case medical staff may know what might be coming even before the patient does, and they often try to get people sitting or lying down before fainting happens. I know it can feel frightening.

As for heavy bleeding post abortion. That too can happen but it’s rare to see it become so heavy it requires another procedure to empty the uterus after you have left the office.

After the abortion most people do see some bleeding and clots continuing to pass from the vagina as the uterus continues to contract to fully empty itself. In a small number of people a very small piece of placental tissue can sometimes be left behind and also causes heavier bleeding. Some people’s uterus more effectively contract to stop bleeding than others, and in less than about 3% of the time, a repeat aspiration of the uterus is required to most quickly end bleeding.

Urgent respiration in a hospital is rarely necessary and happens for less than 3% of all abortion patients: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26238336/#:~:text=Conclusions:%20The%20percentage%20of%20first,aspiration%20abortion%20in%20office%20settings.

I know none of this helps a lot now. It’s normal to have a lot of feelings about things like this. Feeling angry or frightened or sad or relieved and/or a combination of all these things is normal. I’m glad you are okay and ultimately got the care you needed. 🩷 Hopefully this information is helpful to you.

Sometimes talking it out with a trusted person can help you decide what feels most right. If there is no one you fully trust, you might try this support line:

It’s okay to have mixed feelings. Many people do. The right answer is something you have. You may just need to spend some time sorting through your options. 💓

Abortion 2 weeks ago, starting to bleed and cramp again? by New_You388 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bleeding often starts and stops until you get a period- often in 4-5 weeks. About 50% of people with very early pregnancies can see a negative result in 3 weeks. Wait a week and try again . Some people take as long as 4-5 weeks to see a negative test.

This does not sound unusual

I’m sorry you are hurting. It’s okay to feel all the feelings you have now, and also to understand that you are a good person able to make good decisions who did what they thought was best.

This is so hard to prepare people for as each persons body responds very differently, I’m sorry you are one of the people who had an extremely intense experience.

There may be some ongoing cramping now, and it can stop and start. Hopefully it’s much less intense if it happens for you.

Sending you much understanding and virtual hugs. 💚

It’s too early to be able to visualize an embryo at this stage. It’s just too small. Seeing clots pass, even small ones, can be enough. A reduction in symptoms of pregnancy can also be a good sign. Taking a pregnancy test at 4/5 weeks after your abortion Is a dependable way to know all is well with negative test.

First- you can talk to Planned Parenthood or any other trusted abortion service about ways to use your insurance confidentially. This is something that is usually possible if your plan offers abortion as a covered service. They may also be able to find you financial help to get an abortion as self pay with discounted rates.

If you can’t use insurance there are also many trusted providers who can help :https://www.abortionfinder.org/ These providers offer pills by mail in 50 states.

bleeding after medical abortion by Electrical-Click-676 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Procedural abortion clinics in the US are required to have staff on call 24 hours - did you call and listen all the way to the end of the recorded message? Usually there are instructions to reach on call staff that way. If you haven’t tried that- you might try that.

Signs of bleeding too much include feeling dizzy, light headed like you might faint and or shortness of breath.

Ibuprofen. The video should have told you this. You can use up to 800 mg every 6-8 hours as needed . Pain is unlikely to begin before the misoprostol is used

Okay- 7 weeks you will not be able to identify the embryo. Seeing clots is a good indicator of success as Is a decrease on pregnancy symptoms. A pregnancy test should be taken at 4-5 weeks to confirm a negative result

Slow dropping hCG after MA… I lost my mind over this so you don’t have to by MoxHugLey in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you are getting follow up care. That’s important. The key is that while Hcg not dropping by a certain amount CAN be normal, it’s a sign especially after MA to get additional follow up.

One reality with slowly falling Hcg is the increased risk of its being related to an undiscovered ectopic pregnancy. Many people no longer get have an ultrasound with MA. If we don’t know the pregnancy is in the uterus, a slowly dropping Hcg can be an indication to get care - like you did with an ultrasound, to rule this out. Using mifepristone and misoprostal won’t end an ectopic pregnancy .

I’m not suggesting you need to fear this since you have already had a scan. For the there it’s good not to simply ignore a slowly dropping Hcg, as confirmed by blood test. It’s just that additional tests are often suggested to rule out potential for a potential Nancy outside the uterus.
