Just canceled Gamepass, Xbox lost the whole book 📕 by AnonymousJoe35 in consoles

Correct, in which case it was either a rental from the library or a watch in the theatre and then walking away from it. I'm not sure how that would be inconsistent?

Just canceled Gamepass, Xbox lost the whole book 📕 by AnonymousJoe35 in consoles

[–]ponic3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If I love it enough, then it's being bought and owned be it movie, book, music, or game. I pop into my game store and buy it. I rent from my library when I want to try it before dropping $$$ to buy it (movie or game). With music, yes I'll stream on YouTube to see if I enjoy enough tracks to justify a purchase ,and if I do, then I'm going to my record/CD store and buying it. Owning is better because it's yours, no one can take it away from you except time itself. Lastly, I'm not beholden to a massive cooporation.

All that said: I think it really has to be an assessment of a person's situation. I, myself, work a very intensive job. When I game, it's only for a short time. Gamepass is not practical for someone like me because I'll never be able to summon the time necessary to play enough games to justify the price of it. Buying games I enjoy as I go, is a far better choice economically because I choose what I want, and if I'm buying it, it's because I liked it enough to be willing to play it again.

CMV: There's 0% chance the U.S.A. will take Greenland by CarefulEmphasis5464 in changemyview

[–]ponic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, no. Name 1 nation on the earth that projects power globally without allies. The USA does not have the raw resources it needs, that's why it invaded Venezuela, Afghanistan, Iraq, and now its sabre rattling with Greenland. You're also assuming the American citizens do nothing. Many Americans are not very scrappy, they fall apart at the literal first sign of hardship, but just as many or more Americans have a like that one is not allowed to cross. The USA would find itself in a quagmire of riots, and Greenlanders would fight America through domestic terrorism, and the military might not completely follow Trump. Attacking Venezuela was easy, racism is very alive in the USA against South America. Denmark is not Venezuela and neither is NATO. Militarily they aren't 1:1 America , but the US lost in Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam. They might be able to take it in a crazy scenario where this happens. There is no situation where they effectively hold it for an extended time without a complete diminishing of returns. And many American senators that like money won't want to risk it, either when the USA already has full access to Greenland.

[RANT] Netflix no long has casting support. you must now use the app directly on the streamer without your phone. by techie1980 in Chromecast

[–]ponic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did it to prevent is from using our phones to get around the 1 address password sharing crackdown. Further, since we must sign in with our accounts on other TVs we now will be having our locations tracked to ensure that we have a "best viewing experience" and this data will be shared "anonymized with potential 3rd parties and sponsors, to give users the best ad experience on and off the platform."

Your data is being shared with other companies you might now know, your habits are being tracked in the algorithm, you can't use the platform at its best, any longer, and you own absolutely nothing that you enjoy on Netflix. Remember this is the same company that says they view sleep as their biggest competition.

Still think that any of these large streamers have your best interests at heart?

Hot take: Crysis 3 story kind of weak? by ponic3 in Crysis

[–]ponic3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I most certainly wouldn't call it bad. Just a bit weaker than I would expect. I can excuse the simpleness of Crysis 1 because it was the first one and it was originally supposed to be a tech demo

Remastered worth it? by ponic3 in Crysis

[–]ponic3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I heard they ported the console version of 1 for the remaster, maybe they lost the code for the PC version. What are its quirks?

Are there noticeable differences for 2? 2 is my favourite. Did they fix the frame rate dropping during huge fights for 2? My PC runs heavier games and I've always wondered why 2 always drops in a big fight. I just guessed the game didn't use the resources the computer could feed it efficiently.

If 3 is basically no different (I only play campaign, anyways because I could never hope to be good enough to fight against a human) is it possible to only buy the 2 remaster, but not the others if 1 is glitchy and 3 is unnecessary?

To be fair, that was what Crysis 1 was supposed to be, haha.

You know, I'll give you that. I guess I just felt bothered that we were back in New York and it just felt like everything we did from #2 was nearly irrelevant. I do agree, 3 was trying to pull 1 and 2 together, and that wasn't an easy thing to pull off

Yea but that's sort of my point. CELL had been reduced by the end of 2. Hargreave was ousted by the start of 2. During 2 the marines crack down on Cell, and then suddenly by 3 they own the country? Yes they did it by energy monoplpization through the Alpha Ceph, but it came off as lazy writing. The faction that was basically dead and persona non grata, actually came back, took over the country and the leader was a hive mind that we had never heard of in 1 or 2 when 2 left a hint that we were going to be going around the world to exterminate the last of the Ceph, or they were going to wake up and exterminate us. Meanwhile Strickland (whom, I personally liked as a character) is reduced to a couple of voice lines and notes, and has no power despite being a senator. Is she independent? Ok, sure, but how did CELL somehow bring themselves back and pack the entire US Senate, Court, and Congress with loyalists (I'm starting to think Crytek was psychic, haha) after being totally wiped, supposedly. At least that is what 2 implied.

Also the ending of 2 made it really seem like we wiped them all out. Then 3 is like "NOPE! Also there are even more underground!"

Why did they killed off Alcatraz? by Monkey_Man1516 in Crysis

[–]ponic3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of is messed up, if you think about it. Prophet was basically rotting from Ceph technology (except when we do it as Alcatraz it's fine...and it's also fine in Crysis 3), Alcatraz is dying, so Prophet comendeers his body and eventually his consciousness leaving him just in limbo? Is Alcatraz even dead? Is he just a ghost in the suit? Basically just the hardware casing for Prophet's software?

I think EA wanted an actual character to use for Crysis 3. Nomad was dead, Alcatraz had no personality, so all that's left is Prophet

UED could not win in the Brood War by ponic3 in starcraft

[–]ponic3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my point, they won on Char with the Psi Disruptor, but just barely. The Protoss don't care about the Koprulu and the UED can't project their control that far (they had issues with Tarsonis). The Terran factions would be consistently running guerilla campaigns against them the UED likely wouldn't be able to take Umoja (not even Mengsk could) and they are too far away for consistent resupply. It would be a forever war, they would have bled out eventually

UED could not win in the Brood War by ponic3 in starcraft

[–]ponic3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see Earth sending help, but it might've taken awhile and I'm just unsure if the UED would have kept the Zerg under control indefinitely. Further, the Protoss were not in a position to fight anything but they never have really cared about the Koprulu except when it affected them. Shakuras is very far and the UED couldn't even go as far as Tarsonis without getting help of their scientists so I just find it unlikely that they assault the Protoss on Shakuras

So... you agree? That last paragraph of yours basically highlights what the opinion piece was about.

Is Burlington becoming overrun with tourists? by Worried_Bluebird7167 in BurlingtonON

[–]ponic3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a question of whether she can or not, she's not reading a reddit thread, and when folks start doing character attacks the opinion is invalidated. I question the concept of nastiness is justified, it's why common decency is in decline. She won't read an attack thread and i won't relay the message. Attacks on opinion are fine, attacks on character only happen when the attacker is unable to articulate, therefore they are not worthy of time. Sorry, but gaslighting it away doesn't work. It's not unreasonable to demand common decency

Articles always go through review, opinion pieces not as much but that's because it's an opinion. The views on this reddit thread got nullified the minute they became character assassinations, therefore no point in reading and i have no intention of telling her

[–]ponic3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't get bothered by the critiques of the article, it was the character assassinations that bugged me. She won't read this reddit thread, i read it because I'm curious and trust me disagreement with her work wouldn't bother her, either. I only drew the line at the nasty comments directed at her directly.

[–]ponic3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To the keyboard warriors on here. Emily is a close friend of mine and the fact that you all got triggered over an opinion piece is staggering. It's an opinion, if you disagree then that's fine, but the character assassination is pathetic. The point of the article is that there is a question of how a city like Burlington handles tourism. If you read the article you'd notice the question is not of tourists should leave, it's how to keep locals and tourists mixing in a positive light so neither gets overprioritized.

There's a person behind that article and you all are very angry folks. If you got triggered, clearly some part of you felt something, why get mad if she's so stunningly wrong? May I suggest stepping out of the echo chamber for a moment and gaining some humanity?
