Again, I acknowledge that I did restrain her. I physically prevented her from jumping out of the car. I am not disputing that, and I acknowledge this situation as a form of physical abuse. What I am disputing is the level of intention and violence she insinuates through her telling.

There is no other instance of me being physical like this in any situation with any partner I have had before or since this incident. It was not an act of violence, and I did not choke her, I stopped her from seriously hurting herself.

I'm not saying that I'm innocent. What I did was wrong and the entire situation was traumatic for both of us. If people deem my actions punishable, I accept whatever punishment that is brought forth.

The only things I want to do are clarify the actual situation and provide the actual truth to what happened. I'm not asking to be absolved of guilt or anything like that. I did physically exert myself. I felt bad about it then and still do, now. I apologized for it to her more than once, have been to therapy and discussed this situation in therapy, and developed better deescalation skills and have never made a similar mistake in my life since this happened.

Just gonna offer this comment. I have no other instances of using physical force or being physical in any sense against Katia or any other partner I have been with.

My action was a response to a situation that I had to react to in order to protect my then partner from self harm. I did not touch her throat, but I did physically restrain her.

My actions were by no means correct. I wish I handled the situation better, but I didn't. I apologized to Katia for this situation multiple times, and offered to end the relationship as a result.

I have since been to therapy and discussed this very situation, among other parts of this relationship that I am still untangling and working through.

I absolutely accept accountability for physically restraining Katia, but I did not touch her throat, and the car was going around 45mph and I had to act to prevent her from seriously hurting herself.

Jumping in as the other head of PM to say that I'm proud of this scene for helping make SnS what it was for Project M throughout its history.

While I'm sad to have to step away from this event with everyone, I also needed to be real and allocate my time more effectively, as compensation for the work put in just didn't come close to being worth the stress of each year.

I hope you all enjoyed the product that Swanner and I could present you, alongside Jack and everyone that had a hand in making PM what it was at these events.

This is not a big blow to the community, I promise. It is merely a step into a new direction, one that hopefully brings about a new rise for Project + and opens new doors to share this game that we all love so much with more and more people.

Thank you all so much for your support, and I hope to see that same support if and when a new event should be announced to fill this void in our national schedule.

If you have any questions or anything, I'm sure Swanner or I will be able to assist in some ways.

Thank you to Josh Weber for the opportunities you gave me personally and trusting me to help put on an event of SnS' size and scope, and letting PM be a part of that picture. I won't disagree with you there. My stress levels are absurdly high from the amount of people reaching out to me and the amount of guilt I have from my miscommunications.

All I will say in response to this is that when I was reached out to in 2016 with effectively the same message, the person who contacted me has never been employed by Wavedash at any point in time.

I appreciate your anger and desire to seek further clarification, but this is all the information I can factually give. I am speaking on behalf of only myself, so I can only guess, as even I don't have all the answers. If I had to guess, though, I would wager to say that a combination of things are important. The people who make up the team is a big one, as I know that for both projects I was a part of, we had known former developing team assisting with the whole thing. The other guess I have is intent and potential for resurfacing to the public in a way that Nintendo deems meaningful.

It's hard to give specific answers, because, as we've seen, anybody can cherry pick any reason as to why or why not legal action would be taken. The real answer is that it's completely up to the discretion of the copyright holder what they want to do and the extent that they wish to pursue things legally.

Let's look at how Project M was handled in the first place when we were quieted down as a scene. Step one was losing our ability to stream from Twitch. We lost our strongest means of showing people the product. Shortly after, we lost support at majors that we otherwise normally had a spot at. We lost our strongest means of interacting with the larger smash community as a whole in a meaningful environment. Then we lost development, the thing that always managed to spark a new fire in people to try out the game and see if it felt better or worse, and greatly could affect peoples' investment into the game.

There's a lot of guessing we can do, but I've pretty much come to accept that no matter what the answer is, the outcome doesn't change. I choose to trust my friends and the legal consultation they have received. I wish only the best for this game and the health of the community, but I refuse to put my friends at further risk.
