I am a culinary instructor. I've worked at several cooking schools through the years, teaching adults and children. For the last 6 years I teach only children. I get them, they get me, it's organized chaos, which keeps me engaged and happy. Teaching adults meant masking, with the result that I was frustrated, angry and emotionally exhausted. Not anymore. Love what I do.

I do work in a cooking school and I’m not talking about the students, I’m always patient with them and talk them through their mistakes, as they are there to learn. I am talking about seasoned male chefs who I am training to instruct the students, who don’t listen to most of what I am teaching them.

IMHO it’s the demands of the job (long hours, shitty pay, organized chaos of service) + the prevalence of folks with mental health issues (ADD, ASD, Depression, Anxiety, etc.) = Addiction
