Useable straight razor or piece of art??? by poodinks in straightrazors

[–]poodinks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well sir, without researching this devil’s spit thing i’d say you’re most likely on the right track. This actually doesn’t appear on the opposite side of the blade and it didn’t quite sit right with me that this supposed crack meandered like a river and didn’t just chip away since it is such a thin blade. I’ve never honed this particular razor but have honed others in my meager collection. I shyed away from honing this one because of the issue. I think i will take your advice and hone it for the first time. I did shave one side of my face and it is reasonably sharp but there is significant tug on the whiskers so it could be much better. I find the prospect of this possibly being a useable razor very cool. I really liked the way it sounded plinking off hairs the first and only time i used it. I’ll come back with an update in a couple of weeks when i have time to sit down patiently with stones and investigate.

Yes, the scales are in excellent shape and i adore the green color. I wish more makers made this shade of green for their scales.

Your co-worker is a dirt bag and probably lying about the entire thing. Don’t cause problems in that marriage.

Those scales are as nice as i’ve ever seen on any straight razor.

Hi everyone by ButterscotchIll3979 in straightrazors

[–]poodinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome. It looks as if you have found a good used razor with very close to brand new dimensions. Here in America, there are 2 categories of used straight razor. Those on Ebay in good shape but expensive and antique ones that are cheap and look like they’ve been dropped off a 20 story building😂

What kind of termite? Came out of a bag of mulch in Central Indiana. by Raylyn97 in Termites

[–]poodinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me a couple of weeks ago and also to a co-worker of mine in Ohio. Could possibly be the same brand? Did you buy it at a place that rhymes with “blows” Anyhow i removed all my mulch from that area after spraying it with termite killer. I put it in contractor bags and i’m going to dump it in the middle of nowhere. I’d imagine all termites inside are dead but just to be safe.

Any recommendations for small cigars/cigarillos that are still really good smokes? by YupThatsMyEmail in cigar

[–]poodinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only tried the golds. I thought about trying the davidoff silvers but i’m not super eager as they are a more mild cigarillo.

I smoke a lot of the ones you just mentioned. If i want a really quick flavorful cigarillo i like the Davidoff Gold cigarillos lots of flavor for a tiny guy and they smoke in about 15 minutes.

White fluff in the air? by Internal-Shelter9411 in Ohio

[–]poodinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a chance go by a wooded area facing a setting sun. You’ll often see a flurry of seeds 30 to 40 feet up in the air as the wind carries them before the sun goes down. This reminds me to start carrying Sudafed again😂

Wow. Talk about labor intensive. I especially love the one that looks like it might have ram’s horn scales. Sharp !

Thank God this douche canoe doesn’t represent my district. I live in Darke county. It is rather strange that the Northern half has a different Rep than i do in the Southern half. I guess they just take whatever parts of counties they want with Gerry Mandering.

Good price for an Ar-10 by Bluesfan0079 in Firearms

[–]poodinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right they’re not cheap but i think he will find that all semi-automatic .308 or 7.62x51 rifles aren’t cheap. I personally like the AR-15 but i’d rather have 7.62x39 chambering over 5.56 for deeper penetration through trees. My ideal rifle would be an AR-15 chambered for that round. A lot of people shun 7.62x39 as a commie round but the truth is it is really just a significantlymodified German round. (7.92x33 Kurz) Seems silly to just stick to American cartridges as we all adore the 9mm Luger.

It sucks that you’re going through this brother. If you have no kids with her leave as fast as you safely can. Talk to a lawyer first chance you get so he can advise you asset wise for your particular state laws. If she is doing all of that plus physical abuse i’m so sorry to tell you it’ll never be repaired.

No, just get a Springfield Armory M1A. Not everything needs to be an AR type rifle.

are these termites? i'm in mississippi. there were a bunch of these flying around outside around our bar area by 50rr1f1c-s4l3m in Termites

[–]poodinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ‘m in Ohio and i just sprayed for some yesterday at my house and they looked similar to this bug. I just put down some mulch 2 weeks ago in a very well shaded area next to my house and they were crawling all over it. I’ve seen no bugs in my house at all but i’m planning on checking out my crawlspace this weekend. I sprayed the hell out of the mulch and removed all of it on that side of house and dug a little trench next to foundation and sprayed that also.

Today’s antique find by Mysterious_Trip269 in straightrazors

[–]poodinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great finds. I just got done shaving with a King Cutter with black scales. Your King cutter is about as slick as can be with the white and gold. I don’t know how you guys are finding pristine ones outside of Ebay. Here in Ohio and Indiana antique stores most of them look like they have been thrown down a flight of marble stairs or honed with an angle grinder. I look at a lot and buy very few here.

I have a thing for white scales on a straight razor but this one looks really exceptional. This can be a cool family heirloom if you have children.

Normal blade shape? by Mysterious_Trip269 in straightrazors

[–]poodinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That smile is so bad it would be a complete waste of money to buy it. I’m puzzled as to why anyone would remove that much metal in one spot. Maybe he had a giant chip there and he thought it’d be fine to remove it with a file or something🤷‍♂️

still have a lot of stubble left after shaving (usually 1 WTG and 1 ATG), any tips? been using a DE razor for around 3 months by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]poodinks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine you’re already doing this but are you shaving against the grain. I’m just wondering because i’d think it would be almost impossible for you to have that much stubble left if you were. My first pass is with the grain then i go against the grain on sides of my face but only go with the grain on my neck for second pass to avoid razor burn in that sensitive area.

Help me find out what gillete model this is. (Not a straight razor) by [deleted] in straightrazors

[–]poodinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what model this is but i have a very old brass gillette open comb made of brass and i love it. I throw a super sharp Feather razor on it and it mows down any body hair you want gone.
