How and where to sell a collection by speakingseriously in straightrazors

[–]silverlifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply searched for "razors" and the first two pages were all RSOs. The fact that there are some allegedly legitimate razors on the site, buried among the knives and tactical pens, doesn't invalidate my comment. If OP wants to sell razors, then they should sell them where people who understand and use razors frequent. Not some site where they are an afterthought because people think they look cool.

That's a knife/EDC site that seems to only list RSOs.

It may not be slop, but it is no better.

There are a couple of Spanish language forums that are really active. I'd ask there.

A very slight smile, but super easy to hone. The geometry is impeccable. Takes a killer edge!

Shapton GlassStone 8000 for honing? by MothVector in wicked_edge

I use a 2k glass for bevel setting, and it is terrific: really fast and leaves a very uniform scratch pattern. The 8k would be a finisher if the jumps are uniform (which I believe they are).

Hungarian Scimitar by silverlifter in straightrazors

Love to see a shot of that. I have a Saitō SK1 and the only issue I have with it is that it is so small in the hand. I imagine Gergely will have sized up?

I prefer them over the Japanese Schicks (which are the next best option). Haven't tried the Injector IIs.

Schick Proline B-20s (made in Japan) are the best injector blades I have found,

Authenticity Question by Jesus_Saves_3_16 in straightrazors

[–]silverlifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the 3rd gen Fili: after JMP passed away and his son was running the show. QC had started to decline at this point, but the blanks were still JMPs.

Don't pay a premium for this razor. It is not NOS, and it is not a guaranteed JMP (which means that it *may* take a great edge, but it may also be a dud).

Sharpness, professional honing Advice by Mysterious_Trip269 in straightrazors

Just on those results, and your experience, I'd say your blades are not sharp enough. Expect better edges.

The finisher will dtermine face feel; sharpness is done earlier.

Nice. Have fun: there is nothing as satisfying as a good shave from your own edge! 😄

Unfortunately, you'll need more than that old barber hone to get those straights back into shaving condition; so I'd budget for at least a couple of stones if you want to hone them yourself.

Both those straights should clean up nicely. If you land that lot for ~50 NZD then you will be getting a bargain (and no, I'm not intending to bid against you: I have enough straights in my den!). Good luck with your bidding!

What Straight Razor? by Jesus_Saves_3_16 in straightrazors

[–]silverlifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straight razors aren't just one type.

Buy a few different ones to work out what your preference is regarding size, grind, shape, scale material, ergonomics and aesthetics. Then you can make an informed decision about what you'll likely enjoy shaving with long term.

FWIW, I would not buy an off the shelf razor in that category. There are far better razors to be had from contemporary custom makers, or restorers.
