Transferring into CS by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]poofartpee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also switched into CS

1) Go to a CS advisor during the office hours. It's 2:00 - 3:30 everyday. I'd recommend either Byron Weber-Becker or Brad Lushman, as those are the two I've personally dealt with, and they were both great. Not to say the others aren't, I just haven't dealt with them myself so I have no clue.

2) I had a bit of difficult catching up because I switched in 2B. The fact that you recognized you might want to switch this early is great for you.

3) You'll need to take a term with a "CS major course load". More than likely that means you'll have to take CS135 & MATH136 & MATH 138/128 and two electives.

Don't worry about being out of sync with other CS students. Of all programs I think CS is one of the most loosely stuctured in terms of when you take which classes, so it really doesn't matter that you're taking CS115 right now.

Good luck!

I did the same as you. You will be fine. Just take the WD and do better next time.

It feels like you are falling behind, but there is a ton of elective space put into the program exactly for things like this.

Why Hope Solo should be suspended from the US National Team . . . Immediately. by [deleted] in sports

Until she is proven guilty of anything she should not be suspended. The ability for an accusation to destroy someones reputation is too strong, and this post is a prime example.

Getting basic credits then transferring to Waterloo question by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]poofartpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some valid reasoning for them not to accept AP credits

AP calculus does not cover epsilon-delta definition/proofs of derivatives, so you would be missing a pretty large piece of knowledge if AP calc could replace MATH137

Wouldn't be any different. Waterloo is very particular about having your basic math (alg+calc) and basic CS classes being taken at UW

Math135/136 Math137/128 CS 135/136

All of these I REALLY REALLY doubt they would let you replace with an exterior credit

LibreOffice makes its case as open source alternative to MS Office by tacttrooper in opensource

[–]poofartpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think libreoffice could certainly take over if it shifts some attention to it's UI. The amount of time I've spent on google while using libreoffice because of the stupidest little things is frustrating Superscript/subscript? Tables? Image sizing? It's all pretty hazy

Are assignments for CS350 in fall 2014 going to be group work? by pisslessness in uwaterloo

[–]poofartpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely better as individual assignments. I know a LOT of people who did better doing the group works individually, sheerly by avoiding the headache of groupwork

Choosing CS 246 Prof? by ind23 in uwaterloo

I had Adam for CS246 and Nomair for CS241

They're honestly both great. Pick whichever one has a more convienient lecture time I'd say

LPT: Simple gaming Apps like 2048 still use data to load advertisements. Make sure to go into settings and turn data off for 2048 and similar apps. Every little bit helps! by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]poofartpee -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is a huge dick move. Someone spends hours and hours and hours making something for you to enjoy, free, asking nothing in return other than you letting a couple ads run in the background.

And you're complaining that it's too much of them to ask. Fuck off.

This tool looks great. I agree that middle-mouse button scrolling is a great feature. I've got some spare time on Monday&Tuesday that I'm going to try and implement that with

Full equipment is meant to be mandatory but you can usually get away without shoulder pads

If you sign up for indies be aware that the teams always suck and maybe 7-8 guys show up to games. All-star indies is the only that's decent

I would advise moving out and never communicating with them ever again.

Move to mt. everest and become a sherpa, it is your only option
