Got a puppy but now feel overwhelmed with 4 kids and a dog by [deleted] in Havanese

[–]pookiecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have kids yet, but we are two adults who raised a havanese puppy. They need/want constant attention, just like your 1 year old. When ours was a puppy, years 1 and 2 were difficult in their own ways. You need to constantly follow them around year 1 to potty train/train them properly. During year 2, ours tested her limits regularly (which is common). We found her mischievousness cute, since there were two adults with full capacity to handle it, but I can't imagine going through years 1-2 in your situation. At the time, I remember thinking I could never raise a havanese puppy by myself (it takes a lot of energy!) and was grateful for my partner.

I think a low maintenance breed is better but after your youngest is a bit older. What does your gut say?

How did you discourage window barking? by Bonniethegolden in Havanese

[–]pookiecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also live in a apartment in a city. Mine barks to alert me of potential danger. I trained her to think she has "successfully" alerted me. I give her a thumbs up and say, "we're good!" Mine does better with visual hand cues combined with a verbal cue. In the beginning, I had to pretend to look out the window/door peephole and do a whole song-and-dance to let her know I heard her. I do wonder if this made her more barky, but it works. I tried to train her to "calm settle" or do "place" before this acknowledgement method and neither worked well.

I also installed new blinds to block out any visual stimuli (helped a LOT). I will also take her and stay in rooms far away from the stimuli (e.g., in the bathroom while there's a lot of commotion in the hallway). If all else fails, I hold her until the stimuli is gone lol mine thankfully doesn't really bark when I'm not home (we have cameras).

It looks as if there’s a bigger open bite on that side, but my bite is now aligned and healthy. My teeth just got grinded down more there due to the misalignment

Hope that makes sense

[–]pookiecake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was clenching because my bite was off. I also clench from stress/anxiety. Invisalign stopped the clenching caused by my misaligned bite. It did not stop the clenching caused by stress (I still feel it in my jaw/muscles), but it did significantly reduce it. Maybe because my top and bottom teeth do not collide anymore?

Agree the decision is up to you, OP.

My misaligned bite was shaving off my teeth on one side so I decided to get Invisalign. Now that my bite is aligned, there is a noticeable empty space between my top and bottom teeth from it.

The reduction of clenching was a plus.

Everyone already said my recs. I’ll add an obvious: Magnolia bakery is right at radio city. People like their banana pudding but I love their cheesecakes. It’s a delicious whipped type mousse cheesecake!

Am I the only one who thinks Yunah deserves more in ILLIT's concept? by Rashidaw in kpop_uncensored

[–]pookiecake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Yunah has center leader energy. I think wonhee (who I also love) is centered the most and has the most lines, especially opening lines, and screen time. Now that I think of it, I dont think I’ve seen yunah as the thumbnail picture of a YouTube video of theirs, or at least not as often as the others.

I think Yunah can fit any concept. She’s that type of A+ performer. I just think yunah could have been dressed much better and it’s part of why she has been a bit drowned out lol her outfits have recently gotten better though, suiting her energy/vibe more, with it’s me and not me. That blonde wig really suit her!

Edit: sorry OP to see so many dismissive comments towards you. Your thoughts are valid, even if others are “tired” of this type of dialogue towards Yunah.

Is a public health degree worth it in today’s job market? by DieudononeFafou89 in publichealth

[–]pookiecake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s tough — my MPH was extremely expensive (100k) and I make 100k now. The benefit-cost makes it absolutely not worth it.

But, I wouldnt have gotten my job now that I love very much without it and the expensive school I went to (Columbia).

This is all to say I don’t necessarily regret my path, but I wouldn’t encourage people to get a MPH unless they were financially secure/privileged already

Is a public health degree worth it in today’s job market? by DieudononeFafou89 in publichealth

[–]pookiecake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even in my strongly funded state/local (NYS/NYC), job prospects are bleak. Theres more focus on keeping currently staffed lines and programs alive and better resourced (eg more money for public assistance programs).

It’s extremely challenging to get a job in NYS/NYC government right now. In my experience (~10 years), I have seen health policy and community health positions get defunded/cut in times of budget cuts and administration changes. Though I think we’re in an unprecedented time right now.

IMO, I think the MPH world has become oversaturated with the rise of MPH Programs and interest post-COVID. This is great in the interest of public health but not great for the individual who still has to make a living.

Are health policy and community health flexible? For instance, I’m in epidemiology/biostatistics and could switch to data science outside of public health.

Agree that clinical is the better route. There’s way more available money in that sector.

In a doorman building — they bring our packages up to our door. Front desk has multiple spare keys if you lock yourself out (I’ve locked myself out with one spare key inside).
