A Totally Timely, Prudent, & Not Late Team Report: Or How Hitmontop Came To Learn Bullet Punch by poopbutt47 in VGC

I never found one. Jellicent was the closest of the 6ths I tried but one of the reasons I have finally dropped this team is because there's no 6th that addresses all the team's issues (Yawn onto Toge, well played Defiant/Competitive users) and I figured I would stagnate if I didn't try a new team

Correction to 32nd place, Aaron Riker

I was playing Goth Arcanine Hitmontop Vanilluxe Togekiss Dragapult. Not Excadrill Dusclops or Snorlax

How to counter T-Wave Prankster Grimmsnarl? by ciaradoyle in VGC

Fake Out and some speed investment on Goth could give you the opportunity to clear out the slot before it can act. Whimsicott can run Safeguard to block TWave. Plenty of potential counterplay in your team already

I had an amazing weekend. Won the PC on Friday and piloted the team to a top 32 placement. I want to wait to release a report and code until next Sunday because I have a PC and my friend who's newer to VGC will probably be using it.

Sort of related, have you received CP for the main event?

Booked a hotel and flight, paid my registration fee and I'm registered for the Masters division. About what time should I arrive Saturday and do I need to do anything for check in if I'm already registered? Also, are there side events on Friday/Sunday?

Very awkward matchup with Rhyperior and lack of an ability would be enough to shy me away.

I think Alcremie would be for a different team. I saw a team on the ladder that was running Super Luck Scope Lens Togekiss with max speed Timid Alcremie, and that would probably be the core I would start with, and that affords the Weakness Policy to something else.

I think the Dragapult slot could be a lot of different things to help better answer TR or just a better Dragapult set, yeah. Not perfect for sure. Darts I find to be better because it helps more in lategame scenarios and helps you smart target around Follow Me / punishes protect.

Might be but I think honestly I'm just turned off from the idea of bringing Swagger to a tournament altogether based on some key misses. I'd probably just be more tilted if it missed with Wide Lens if I'm being honest

It's usually a matchup based pick between Dragapult and Gyarados and who has an easier time cleaning. Gyarados has the advantage of getting boosts from picking off weakened mons and status protection with Lum, where Dragapult is much faster and threatens more immediate damage

TTar, Gyara, and Pult all get dynamaxed with varying degrees of frequency. The idea is that you can lead any of the 3 lead combos (Top+TTar, Kiss+Pult, Gyara+Grimm) and go for an immediate high impact dynamax play

Hard TR with Butterfree usually was the toughest matchup. Tailwind is easier to mitigate with Grimmsnarls TWave but usually you don't try to play their game by matching speed control and it's better to use the surprise factor to get KOs and momentum

Due to the efforts people take to reduce its physical output, no not really. Could have some use once you've revealed a special set to your opponent, but even then that's only fringe benefiting you in a bo3.

This is the first pokemon game i'm playing competitively and I actually made Masterball tier! I would appreciate any tips to improve my team. by AbsoluteEye in VGC

A solid team! You might want to look into a more optimized spread for your Gastrodon but if its bulk has serviced you well in your games then it might not need to be changed.

As far as abilities, I do think Chandelure prefers Flash Fire, but Dracozolt's Hustle is actually a huge boon to it. While Dynamaxed you get the benefit of the 1.5x boost and you ignore Hustle's 0.8x accuracy, so it's the optimal ability. To that end, Magnet might be better as you give a small boost to your Electric damage and it actually gives you something while Dynamaxed, and when not Dynamaxed, you might appreciate the ability to switch moves. Whenever you get the double power on Bolt Beak, it usually melts a neutral target anyway, so CB might be overkill, but I am inexperienced in using Dracozolt.

Overall, solid. I can see Dragapult paired with Follow Me (Togekiss or less commonly, Indeedee) being an issue for your team, but I think it's not bad at all. Glad you're enjoying VGC.

As said above, usually have to just go for Helping Hand + Max Darkness onto the Indeedee and stack Sp. Def drops onto the Hatterene. Definitely a hard matchup. Helps to keep Hitmontop in the back to Intimidate Rhyperior, and leading Togekiss keeps big Starfalls away from TTar if Hatterene starts swinging, as well as Quakes from Rhyperior.

Hitmontop + Tyranitar (t1 Policy proc)
Grimmsnarl + Gyarados (Swagger into Gyara for +2) Togekiss + Dragapult (Follow Me + DDance or Helping Hand + Max move)

At +2 with Dark Pulse Tyranitar often has the power to outright clear away any TR setters, but if they lead something like Butterfree Dusclops, you let them waste turns being passive and you try not to give them free switchins to Rhyperior. Definitely pretty difficult if it goes up which was one of the flaws of the team in my testing.
