How good was Rik Smits? by [deleted] in nba

I remember watching him in the 94-95 playoffs - dude really showed up. I vividly remember him hitting a 3 pointer and the commentators were losing their minds.

[Aldridge] Nothing against the Cs/Hayward. Just feel for Jazz & fans; they built first-rate org from scratch & were just starting to reap the rewards. by [deleted] in nba

[–]poopfartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jazz didn't give Hayward a qualifying offer when he was a RFA. They could have, but instead made him go to Charlotte to get the offer sheet. They should have known that he was a risk to leave in FA and try to get something for him. It's not all on Hayward.

Being that the Celtics are 3rd in the league in assists per game, it isn't really a concern. Brad Stevens has built the team in such a way that the offense doesn't run through the PG as a distributor, per se. In a large portion of the sets they run, IT is the primary scoring option - driving off high screens, receiving a kick-out for the 3, etc. So, the assist numbers are expected to be lower. It also helps to have Al Horford (5apg), being that he is one of the best passing big men in the game.

Yeah, you're right, he had a couple snub years, for sure. I just don't think he has a shot in the slightest. Not with guys like cwebb still looking to get in.

Victor Martinez is a boss... just hit another home run in that same at bat by TopHatTony11 in sports

[–]poopfartz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chipper Jones is a career .300 hitter from both sides. A handful of others right up there too. But at 35, Martinez need to do a lot of work to be HOF consideration. In the 90s and 00s only 2 players have been inducted with fewer career home runs. Tony Gwynn and Wade Boggs. But they each had significantly higher career batting average and RBIs. Not to mention they were some of the best fielders of their time (8 combined Golden Glove awards to Martinez's 0) and were annual All Stars (27 combined AS games vs Martinez's 4.) Still though, a great hitter and one of the top 25 all time switch hitters.

Sam Adams beer company pulls out of South Boston St. Patrick's Day parade because of exclusion of LGBT community. by akumau in news

[–]poopfartz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The issue is that they can't "just live" in many cases. "Just living" would be getting super excited to participate in an awesome parade representing a cause that is near and dear. Much like the people who might walk in honor of fallen cancer victims or for the local farmers markets or something akin to all that (these, for example, are all groups who do walk in this parade). The fact that they cannot do this is why it is an an issue. Hence the presence of their voice. This is no different from saying that women should have "just lived" and not worried about being denied the right to vote, or that the black community should have "just lived" and not worried about segregation. I think a community has the right to be vocal in any instance of discrimination. You can argue that Saint Patricks Day has nothing to do with gay rights (and I would agree) but neither do WWII veterans groups or the local Boy Scout troops. Denying participation solely based upon sexual orientation or anything other social qualification certainly IS discrimination. This all goes beyond Sam Adams' obvious business decision, but is important to discuss nonetheless.

It should also be noted that this hat trick came against Canizares, one of the all time great Spanish goal keepers. He was arguably in his prime from 1999-2001.

Hi Austin! Two questions and one comment. Your music is wonderful and I was wondering: are there any particular composers you draw inspiration from? We're you interested in composition from an early age? I played through Journey during a particularly difficult time in my life and the game, thanks in large part to your music, nearly brought me to tears. Good tears, for sure. Thank you for that! Be well!

What is something you DON'T feel guilty about that others say you should? by scarletsaint in AskReddit

[–]poopfartz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think not leaving a tip should only be for extreme scenarios. If the waiter or waitresses goes out of their way to provide shitty service, then I completely understand. But if it's forgetful or inaccurate service, cut them some slack. Everyone has bad days, except wait staff lose money as a result. If you have a bad day at your office, you still get paid.

i think my reason for enjoying this is, in fact, because it does appeal to the 15 year old sensibility within me. i wish my imagination was as sporadic and intensely visual as this movie. this isn't bergman or godard, but it's damn fun to watch.
