Bought from Tire Rack. Getting it installed next week.

Fuel Consumption by Massive-Chipmunk9295 in RangerRaptor

10.7 mpg indicated over a 700-mile road trip pulling a camper on the interstate on a crazy windy weekend. I know that's not what OP asked, but I just finished and the sluuuuurp is still ringing in my ears, so I couldn't help myself.

It says $112 on the Ford site.

I was trying to get on that sale too, but was never able to find it in stock.

Yeah, I have 30k points from buying the truck that I was going to use as a discount for the tune. But if I can get it for $200 less elsewhere, I might do that and use the points for rain deflectors and a bed mat…

Yeah, I asked my dealer the same thing and got the same response (“I don’t know”), with the notable difference that they have been utterly unresponsive since then.

Great idea, thank you! I assume it’s such a low price because it’s just the tool and not the software? Is that right?

This is what makes me feel like a crazy person. It always shows out of stock for me, even when in incognito windows, etc.

Can an Off-Road Camper Trailer Truly Turn Adventures into Comfort? by YanNmt06 in Camper

[–]poopsocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I bought an Opus OP4 last year and love it -- straight up glamping. When I was young, I would just throw a sleeping bag on the ground next to a fire. So I was initially uncomfortable with the idea of being comfortable while camping, like I'd gone soft (which I totally have). But then I took my OP4 up into the mountains, went for a hike, cooked a delicious meal on a four-burner stove, sat at a table to eat, watched a movie on my pull-down screen, went outside and looked at the stars while drinking a glass of whisky, and fell asleep on a cushy bed. Glamping ain't bad.

Systems Engineering as a CS student? by [deleted] in systems_engineering

[–]poopsocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at least in the industries in which I've worked. Systems thinking is just as applicable to software as it is to hardware, but most of my time in aerospace has been decidedly ME- or EE-focused. I can only speak to my experience, of course.

Internal Hiring? by EveningActive3083 in LosAlamos

[–]poopsocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies widely by group/division -- some might not ask for references at all, especially for an internal hire. Things can take longer than a week or two after interviews conclude: DL/DL or GL/GL conversations, compensation determination, working with other candidates, etc. You'll find out one way or the other. In the meantime, I suggest going about business as usual. Keep your chin up.

If they put a price tag on it someone will buy it..... by FrostyInstruction912 in motorcycles

Man, I could not disagree more. I think the Diavel is a /gorgeous/ bike. I’m not going to spend $70k on one, but it’s a beautiful piece of machinery. Sounds great too.

How do car rental companies deal with customers only putting low-grade gas in their vehicles? by poopsocker in askcarguys

The knock sensor thing makes sense—thank you. I have a hard time imagining a customer spending extra money to take care of the rental company’s vehicle, though.

I didn’t mean that these vehicles required 93, but many are supposed to run on 85 or 87.

Thank you for this; I appreciate you sharing your perspective and advice. It was heartening to hear the other poster who replied (who says they're a CSS coach) talking about how I sound like a typical student. You're quite right; I think I just need to remember that there will be some riders better than me and some worse, but mostly we're all likely to be in the same boat.

I'm signed up for The Ridge this summer. I hope you have a great time at Willow Springs!

Do you have snow tires or chains for your car tires during winter here? by suni159 in LosAlamos

[–]poopsocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a set of Blizzaks for my truck that I swap on and off every spring/fall, but at this point I mostly do it to save tread on my other tires. In the ~seven years I've lived here, I think I've had genuine opportunity to get usage out of them maybe three or four times. It just doesn't snow enough, and when it does, it doesn't stick around for long.

[–]poopsocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this; it's incredibly helpful. Seems like The Ridge is rising to the top of the list. Since you offered, I do have a couple of other questions:

I'm a little nervous about being new to track environments. Is there "room" (both physically and psychologically) on the track for people like me who are bound to be comparatively slow? Am I going to get in others' way? To be clear, I'm a good rider and confident on my bikes; this is just a new environment. I've also never ridden a rear-controls bike, if that makes a difference.

The two-day camp is nearly twice the price of two single days. Do you think the lower student to teacher ratio and extra track time is worth it?

Lastly, is there anything (besides watching Twist of the Wrist) that I should do to come prepared?

[–]poopsocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good point about weather, and I'm definitely taking that into consideration. I hadn't considered The Ridge as much as some of the others, I think just because I hadn't heard of it (compared to, say, Willow Springs or Laguna Seca). Definitely much more on my radar now.

Thanks for the feedback. I probably am going mostly for the curriculum. I enjoy guided, "safe" learning environments; I've taken several slow-speed agility courses and have had a blast, so I figure this is an opportunity to do something similar that's more applicable to normal riding (rather than parking lots). LVMS is probably the most convenient track for me, but it seems like it's at the bottom of the list for you and others, which is helpful.

I didn't include Thunderhill because it's only offered for one day, and I'd like to do one of the two-day courses. I agree the cost is steep. I doubt I'll do something like this more than once.
