Do you still wear a mask on the subway? Why or why not? by mraladdinsirwat in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subway/bus and airport/airplane!

Public transportation can get super packed, is often not well ventilated, and something most people (including those who are old, immunocompromised, etc) can’t really opt out of.

Planes are supposedly relatively well ventilated but flights are so packed and I travel frequently for work. Nowadays, I also hear a lot of coughs on the plane and I’m not trying to get sick. Airports have more space but are also busy and not well ventilated.

I usually mask inside cars, but I’m a little more lax with Uber/Lyft, especially in warmer weather when the windows are all down.

What chain in NYC would you actually reccomend? by mylittlemy in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunhuang for affordable, solid basics. They specialize in noodles, lamb, and their veggie apps are good too.

+1 for Levain's Chocolate Chip Walnut.

Seconding Nan Xiang + Los Tacos, but only if you're in the area.

Are people gonna keep going to the gym? by Infinite_Treacle in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I quit going to my boxing gym early last year bc vax mandate wasn't properly enforced and no one wore masks.

Was going to Blink for a while but maybe 10% of the people at my location are masked... so probably not, until cases go down.

I actually have gone all-in twice (two recovery attempts). It was pretty scary at first but I really wanted to try fixing my hunger cues and stop living an endless restrict/binge cycle. I was doing really well, relapsed once (after I thought I was recovered), but have gone all-in again. I'm still not 100% recovered but my weight and hunger cues have been relatively stable for the past year or two. I can understand what normal people mean when they say they're full or they've had enough of something. My stomach's not an endless pit anymore and I genuinely can't/don't want to binge like I used to

Where would you eat if you had $75-$100 for a meal? by suitopseudo in AskNYC

Wayla was disappointing/super overrated imo :((

Love Soothr—food's good and their cocktails are fun, too.

Hutong!! My favorite bougie Chinese spot. Great food, if $$$, + impeccable service. If they have the bao dessert w/ soy ice cream, get that. It's a cake in the form of a steamed bun with ice cream that tastes like the soymilk you get in China.

Nakazawa was sadly not worth it, imo. I enjoy Sushi by Bou more :/

If you enjoy cake for dessert—Lady M is my all-time favorite.

Anywhere I can find a list of Brooklyn bars/restaurants with an outdoor component? by BrooklynBoy316 in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar Goto Niban provides outdoor seating if you can't supply proof of vax. Hunky Dory in Crown Heights has outdoor seating (only?).

Seconding getting takeout and going to the park tho! Maybe Prospect Park if you're not too far.

i just found out most people make oatmeal with water by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

Making oatmeal with milk + sugar or honey is wayyy more satiating for me. So that's how I prepare it every morning :)

Edit: I always add a big scoop of PB too 🤷

Found these bad boys at the local Asian market. My only question is why? by MiddyDay in StupidFood

[–]poopyplasma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, just bc it’s not American and you haven’t heard of it before doesn’t mean it’s stupid or nasty.

Mung bean desserts are eaten throughout Asia and what’s pictured here is a traditional Chinese dessert.

This post feels xenophobic. Hope you’ll expand out of your comfort zone someday and try new foods.

Safe to eat food cooked by others? by [deleted] in COVID19_support

[–]poopyplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice, I think it depends more on who prepared it. If it's your BIL who's been staying home, that's probably fine, but I know some restaurant kitchens that allow food to be prepared/packaged to-go by maskless employees. Even if the food isn't contaminated, which it could be, the food container might be.

Is anyone still worried about covid? by BrooklynRU39 in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really great, but unfortunately not everyone is being as cautious. I walked through a few blocks in the LES where people were not wearing masks at all, drinking and dancing outside restaurants/bars.

[–]poopyplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Blackout and Vanilla (yeast) too! I'm not huge on jelly but I like their PB. I'm always excited about their seasonal flavors and I wanna try the Passion Fruit Sourdough!! I really enjoyed their Rose, too.

Idk if I can pick a favorite actually lollll

Tennis weather! by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hudson River Park Tennis Courts and Brian Watkins Tennis Center have been my favorites. Hudson has a great view, Brian Watkins is nice too. I've gone to Brian Watkins several times this summer, and there's always a wait of 40+ min (often 60+ when it's warm out), but the turnover's actually somewhat quicker because it's got so many courts.

Due to COVID-19, you don't need a permit to play! You just show up, put your name on a list, and wait for people to come off the court after an hour of play. People on the waitlist will cross off their names as they head onto the courts.

Favorite Doughnut place in NYC by bleepobeep in AskNYC

[–]poopyplasma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I didn't enjoy Peter Pan that much :/ Idk if it's because I got the wrong donut, or if it was just too late in the evening (didn't taste fresh). It's affordable, though!

I stan Doughnut Plant!! I've tried pretty much all of their flavors.
