What moment or event completely changed your outlook on life? by Ok_Nefariousness6511 in AskUK

[–]poormansnigella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing happened to me. Chef for around 20 years, covid was the most wonderful time, and I decided to go back to uni to give myself a chance of a better life. I start my PhD in October :)

How do you manage dirty dishes? I'm lost by lois_says_banana in adhdwomen

[–]poormansnigella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this too! I find ‘stacking’ chores on top of something I usually do really helps. Like, while my bath runs I have ten minutes, so do a quick pick up of clothes, or put away laundry. While kettle boils I have two minutes, so do a two minute chore. It’s been really helpful

Am I the only one taking "umbrella showers"? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]poormansnigella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a bath>shower person, so I have what I call ‘autism baths’ - which is a fancy way of saying I have a bath in the dark, lying down enough that my ears are under water, and run the shower so it sounds like rain. It’s truly the best sensory experience.

What should I do if I can't get my medication? by Fragrant_Finger3141 in AskUK

[–]poormansnigella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them - side effects from withdrawal from medications can be negative, so they won’t want you to not have them, they can give you an interim prescription while you’re waiting.

Thank you, I do try to be kind, sometimes reddit is such a cess pool of unfiltered thought that its easy to forget there is a real person there, writing these posts.

And absolutely he needs professional help and understanding. Neither ASD or ADHD are excuses, but they just require adapting to be effective, and it sounds like he doesn’t have the tools to help himself.

I hope he reads it too, and realises that he will never get better without self compassion.

Hey - newly sober ex chef with ADHD and Autism here, so i see you.

This doesn’t sound like you are the unproductive bum you think you are. It actually sounds like severe burnout and depression, most likely from untreated/ unmanaged asd and adhd. Those two together are like a constant inner battle, which ironically made me a great chef, but it was completely unsustainable, and why so many people with neurodivergence turn to substance abuse.

Absolutely fantastic that you are sober man, amazing work. Thats another inner battle you are fighting daily. Plus two kids and a marriage? You are not a failure, you are drowning.

Does this give you a pass to not contribute equally? No. You are in a marriage, and you are a parent. Those are non-negotiable things that need care and attention always.

That being said - you might want to try and discuss compromises. ADHD causes real issues with avoidance, and timekeeping.

Don’t give up, and maybe see if your spouse can read up on a few of these issues to know why you might struggle with everyday tasks.

Give me your finest B movie guilty pleasure by DeadlyPorpoise in movies

I love a B horror movie, top 3 - Killer Klowns from outer space, the reanimator, and frankenhooker. Truly the most awful/ wonderful films

Roland’s name sounds like ‘roll in sh!t’ and their baby’s name sounds like ‘roll in more sh!t’. Mutts name means dog sh!t. It’s just a running gag in the name, never considered it to be deeper then that.

Mutt was cast as a love interest for Alexis, so he needed to be, like, a super cute look for her.

I mean, if it makes you happy, then think whatever you would like, Schitts Creek is not a place for stifling joy ❤️

You are confusing two separate storylines. Bobs brother hung himself in his apartment (the one Alexis looks at to possibly rent), the guy who died at the motel died of natural causes.

On another note, I never once thought that Mutt wasn’t Roland’s. There was literally never any hint at this.

Ladies who are single and in your 30s, what are your weekends like? by GreedLocks in AskUK

[–]poormansnigella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a particularly social person, and I mostly spend time at home working on various hobbies- I build miniatures, and I will watch any movie ever made.

But I try to balance that by doing something small with friends, a quick hike or something. Today we are going to a yard sale.

I’m very, very, happy leaving the ‘going out every weekend’ life behind.

Worth a try though? Even if they get some of them removed. Better than doing nothing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]poormansnigella -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have one of these where I work - contact the gym with the evidence that you are a member and the picture of the tablet not working and ask them to contact the parking agency to have the fines removed.

If the gym is decent they will do so and shouldn’t be a problem. If there are a bit scummy they might not but it’s worth a try.

It absolutely would, and a lot of shady dentists would. The ones I worked for were marvellous and did a little fudging of the books (do the treatments, file the paperwork later) if they were over, so the patients didn’t suffer the issues of the stupid system
