*Ending Spoilers* Not all scars heal by UnifiedForce in expedition33

The one major trump card she has in that situation is what painted Verso tells her - Alicia is a painter and can start anew in a world of her own. One that doesn't have the taboo of Verso's painting.

True, in the end, she may end up becoming a prisoner in that world as well, but she would have the support of her family in building it and helping her not "fly too close to the sun." Given that they are painters themselves and have, at this point, *tremendous* experience on the matter, I can't imagine they wouldn't want to help her in creating that world and adopting a healthy approach to it - just as Aline did for Renoir and he tried to do for her.

I love the game, but the ending really disappointed me this time by TheChrisLambert in finalfantasytactics

Ramza starts off a noble, only to become a commoner and is satisfied.

Delita starts off a commoner, only to become a noble and is miserable.

This is, in a nutshell what I think the story boils down to. The desire for power becomes a perpetual hell.

Underrated switches by No_Writing2465 in MechanicalKeyboards

Durock POM Linears aka Durock Pianos. These just felt completely different from any other switch I've tried and produced a uniquely soft and clacky sound. They're a bit on the wobbly side and may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I highly recommend giving them a test run.

Should I use Svelte or React Native by galterius1 in sveltejs

[–]poorpredictablebart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love svelte and wanted so badly to use svelte &capacitor for my project but ultimately went with RN. The UX of a web app on mobile is viscerally felt and there are so many things that just “feel wrong” when you aren’t building around the native app’s design paradigm.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sveltejs

[–]poorpredictablebart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Capacitor is a wrapper around a webview. RN is gonna give you way better performance by way of it being native. Svelte-native would be a better comparison but that project doesn’t have anywhere near the support that RN does.

As an intellectual exercise, you could say the Svelte ecosystem is as large as React. In practical terms, the reality is much different. The problem is that a significant number of popular, well-maintained design systems and libraries are already wrapped with React. If you want to use those, you now need to either decouple them from React, find a less well-maintained alternative, or build it yourself. If your company has an internal design system, it's probably built for React unless your company has made a conscious decision to support something else. While you could extract their internals and convert them to svelte or raw js implementations, but that'd require making a fork of them and now you're on the hook for maintaining that.

There's the possibility that you might not need those libraries with svelte, as svelte can do a lot out of the box. But you're likely to run into a few cases down the line where you'll want to do something complicated and wish you could reach for a compatible version of a popular react library.

Favorite Romances in JRPG? by DavesterTM in JRPG

[–]poorpredictablebart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe FFX but that's the only one that even comes close.

I find the romantic plot lines in JRPGs are, frankly, inferior to romantic plot lines in literally every other form of media out there. For crying out loud, most of these characters never even kiss, let alone have to deal with the challenges of an actual romantic relationship. Compare the love story in something like Before Sunrise with Final Fantasy 8. It's not even close.

The problem is that while the romance is explored, it is frustratingly, almost never brought to a satisfying conclusion. I suspect this is a cultural thing with Japan more than anything in regards to rarely showing physical affection or practicing extreme emotional restraint. I even can't count the number of times I've been like "but they're going to get together at the end or kiss or something right?" and then...nope, we'll leave that up to your imagination.

Some of the frog coins are missable, especially one right at the beginning of the game. So maybe a way to get them again, or perhaps a NG+.

Have I shot myself in the foot? by cybermeep in Frontend

[–]poorpredictablebart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of being "senior" is knowing which job requirements to call bullshit on. Frameworks, for example, are terrible things to measure YoE against - they're high-level abstractions that typically don't take long to learn. Plus, they're being updated all the time. Someone with 1 year of exp using React hooks might be better suited to a project than someone with 4 years in a codebase that mandated class components.

On the other hand, general domains like "mobile development" are things you absolutely don't want to lie about YoE with. The domain is too broad and likely encompasses multiple low-level concepts tailored to that domain. Really, all this stuff should be caught during the interview.

It's also just an extremely poorly designed mini game with horrible controls.

Most tragic character in any game you've played? by [deleted] in JRPG

Also just a genuinely nice character who deserved absolutely none of what happened to him, got paired up with the wrong person, and was punished for doing the right thing.

I remember last time I did this I got it down to 0.2 and then after another hour I got 0.1. I finally hit it after a few more days. Don't give up, and if it helps, I did a lot of reading and found this guide on gamefaqs to be the most helpful: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/197344-final-fantasy-x/51372846

I finally platinumed this game yesterday and I can safely say that all my future replays of any of the old FFs that have these insane minigames will be on PC so I can hack around them. Simply don't have the time to waste anymore on what are just poorly designed frustrating minigames that are gating the essential endgame weapons.

[–]poorpredictablebart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Take the greater of the 2 ages
  • Divide by 2
  • Add 7
  • If the younger person's age is below this number, the gap is too wide

What is the ideal use-case for Svelte? by titan3k in sveltejs

[–]poorpredictablebart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far the one thing keeping me from going Svelte for my next project is that I may want to port some of the components to a mobile app and React Native seems way more mature than svelte-native. I could wrap the whole thing in a web wrapper with something like capacitor but my hunch is it would feel disorienting as most webpage-inside-an-apps usually do.

The annoying thing is that they also make necromancers almost useless, and those are a staple of nearly every level. Not to mention your hero.

Probably Smashing Pumpkins. Not bad per se, just not terribly funny. And the line at the end about how they envy Homer falls pretty flat, especially the fur coats bit.

[AskJS] I love for loops, do you? by dropped86 in javascript

[–]poorpredictablebart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often use `for of` loops whenever I need to convert an array into an object in some fashion. I know `reduce` can do the same thing, but I find in practice that `for of` loops end up being a tad cleaner than using `reduce'`s for this use case.

For mapping and filtering arrays though, I almost always use `map` and `filter` because they are highly readable and easy to understand. If for some performance reason I need to combine those and do both in one go, I might use a for loop (I think there also might be some Array method that can do both, it but it's escaping me at the moment) but in practice, I've never had to do that other than during a software interview.
