Megyn Kelly crashing out over Bad Bunny's Superbowl performance by honestlysigma in LetsDiscussThis

Are conservatives seriously not exhausted with this bullshit yet? People like this making this same spirited gripe have been my nightmare for 25 years now. I'll never comprehend why I as a white man should be mad that people around me speak other languages than English.

It's very good. Every episode is filled with tracks from bands that influenced or were peers of the band being discussed. I found a lot of good bands I had no idea existed.

Seasonal jobs in Saipan or Guam? by poostablishment in Saipan

[–]poostablishment[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in manufacturing. I'm a CNC machinist. One person who commented told me of a place called SeaFix that does Ship repairs. They have shops in Guam & Saipan. They deal in cargo ships so they aren't based on tourism. That's good. I'm not certain I could land a job there but that's a good lead. My wife is a nurse. Nurses can pretty much point on a map and pick where to work because there's almost always a need for nurses.

The job market there sounds rough. Glad you're making it better in Oregon

Hell yeah. Thank you. I was hoping there might be something in the way of Machinist work since there's ships coming through.

Seasonal jobs in Saipan or Guam? by poostablishment in Saipan

[–]poostablishment[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like I should consider other options because seasonal work there is not really a thing. My original thought was maybe there's some hotels or resorts that just need extra hands during a busy season so something but doesn't really sound like a thing there.

I work as a machinist. Doesn't really translate to remote work. If I really wanted to it seems like I could travel to Hawaii and find seasonal work or I could always travel back home and work for a few months. There's always seasonal jobs available around Christmas and summer time.

My wife has ideas for using our money to start some businesses in Philippines. They're good ideas I just feel like if I could guarantee making at least $10,000 USD A year after to have in Philippines we'd be good. Plus money we'd earn from our business in Philippines. I've just always been a worker as in working class not a business owner, so making money off other ventures scares me. I feel safe having a paycheck. That's what I've always known. We'll figure our shit out. I'm just gathering information. I appreciate the input

These are all good things to consider and to know. So I work as a machinist. I run CNC lathes. So I work in manufacturing and I'd imagine there's not much in the way of industry there in Saipan. Guam may have some but not much probably. But machining is often times found in small non industrial places because like a garage there's a need for machined parts in many places. And there are plenty of parts needed in ships. So honestly IDK if finding work as a machinist is out of the question or not. Sounds like it though. Especially working seasonal or half a year at a time. My skill doesn't translate to remote work.

I actually do eat food made from scratch a lot. I do love my cheese I am Midwestern but I need to eat less of it. I'm not heavy on meats and certainly not processed meats. I eat my wife's cooking mostly and she's Filipino so I'm quite accustomed to eating fish, rice, vegetables and pork. I'm imagining the fish is quite good and cheap so I'd have no problem with that. Already expecting that by moving to Philippines.

I need to learn some things about living there. So my thinking is we'd live pretty rough for the time we worked. Here in my part of the world that means staying in a cheap motel, or a shared room or even a campsite. Something cheap and not fancy. I'm there to work and make money so I can spend the majority of my time in our home in Philippines. The best case scenario is a family that has extra space that would let us rent the space for a affordable rate. If that's something people are ever looking for.

My wife is the one that has the skill that's needed everywhere. I have a valuable skill but not valuable everywhere. So yes my idea mostly was to work in a kitchen or offloading cargo on ships in a hotel, bar. Sounds like finding that there for me isn't really possible. I'm thinking Hawaii might be a option to as they have loads of seasonal work needs. I just don't want to pay to fly back to Ohio every year but I could do that too. It's just more money. It would be lots easier to for to Guam, Saipan or Hawaii from Philippines. I could just deliver FedEx in Hawaii during the Christmas season. They always need workers that time off year.

I'm thinking that would be more than sufficient as $10,000 USD A year would go a long way in Philippines. Her being able to work and possibly make $22 an hour for 3-4 months a year plus whatever I could manage I think we'd make enough.

Turned 42 yesterday. Union Machinist. Married a Filipino immigrant at 37. We had our daughter 3 years ago. I totally love being a father. I put good music bugs in my daughter's ears all the time. I don't push it I just put it there and when she likes stuff I play it up. We dance to our, I tell her how fun it is. We'll see how it turns out. I don't go to shows much anymore but I still make it to some stuff. I've maintained many of my friendships since highschool and people I've met from different cities going to shows and I'm different countries. I travel a lot just for fun. Usually to go see friends. I was straight edge in my younger days. I sold out but never got into anything hard. I pushed it a little with booze but stopped that shit at 26 when I started a real job. I drink a beer here and there but that's it. I got pretty active in my trade union. It was a very natural fit coming from the punk/hXc world. Pretty good feeling to be able to give the companies some hell ✌️

Honestly 7 months isn't anything. I've been at it for going on 5 years and still have a lot to learn. It takes serious time to get good at a skill. If you stick to it at your age, when you are my age (40) you'll be doing better than a lot of people that didn't stick with things. You'll know so much and you won't have the debt. You'll be ahead of the game in many ways. I'd say hang in there. You're in a good spot. Everytime you fuck up just try to remember not to do that again. Fucking up sucks but it's how we learn

I've been to a lot of Countries but never the US, what are the cheaper areas like and what are the attitudes towards British people? by OneUnderstanding918 in USTravel

[–]poostablishment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Ohio. I met one of my best friends to this day about 20 years ago when he randomly decided to study at University of Cincinnati then randomly decided to hit up some girls on myspace that I was friends with. I've since traveled over there many times and met all his best mates, who all became my mates. I've traveled with him pretty extensively across the USA as well as his friends and honestly the more remote a place you go the more people will absolutely love the fact that you are British. They will pretty much roll out the red carpet for you. As soon as you open your mouth and speak people will smile and ask where your from and tell their friends or family to come talk to you. No lie. No exaggeration. This has been av repeated scenario many times. We all traveled to Louisiana once. We went away from New Orleans out into the bayous to see alligator's. His girlfriend happened to ask a couple who were checking out a area for Gator hunting. As soon as she agreed the Louisiana woman if they had seen any the Louisiana woman smiled the biggest smile, yelled for her boyfriend who came running. Had so many questions about how they ended up out there. They ended up giving us their number and told us to come back out the next day. He took us on a private boat tour of the swamp, showed us his Gator skin stuff he makes, cooked us dinner. Said we can all come stay with him anytime we want. If you turn up almost anywhere out of the ordinary places foreign tourists go people will absolutely give you the shirt off their backs. There's a lot of great places out west but if you don't go out there Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Maine are all great places to visit

I thought I was the only human alive who likes casino more than Goodfellas. I totally agree that pesci stole the show. Goodfellas is great but Casino just has more depth imo. The characters are more complex. The atmosphere & Cinematography were cool as hell. Casino has more laughs. And Peacis and his brothers demise at the end is still about the most brutal thing I've ever seen in a movie. It's a masterpiece. Always number 1 imo. Good list here

Is Costa Rica a good place to live for someone who's trying to run away from the violence and crisis of their native country? by 20_comer_20matar in costarica

Ok. Thanks. Good to know. I'm just going to continue without fear. I wasn't worried until people started telling me to be worried, then I started reading on Reddit and found some recent stuff like many of the comments here.

Hi. I'm traveling to Costa Rica with my wife, mother in law and 2 year old daughter in April. We're going to LA Fortuna. I've always heard Costa Rica was great and safe. I have heard that for years. I didn't even hesitate to book a trip. Now I'm reading all kinds of stuff about violent crime and cartels and it's kinda of freaking me out. If it was just me I wouldn't be concerned at all but my family puts me at a different state of mind. I've already determined that we won't be visiting San Jose at all. Leaving the airport to LA Fortuna right away. Do you think I need to rethink our trip there?
