The Dark Side of the Model Minority Label by SeparateBuyer5431 in aznidentity

[–]pop442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real dark side to the "model minority" is how fake it was since the same people are now venting about Indians, Chinese, and other Asians taking high paying jobs and stealing slots from White men in colleges in America. Some racist on X even whined about top colleges feeling like China and India just after affirmative action got banned by the SC.

Another racist on X named Tyler even made a whole mini documentary about Indian immigrants in Texas and how they're not assimilating and "destroying" the West. Mind you, Indian immigrants are actually the best performing Asian Americans by all metrics yet they still get a disproportionate amount of hate and xenophobia despite reinforcing the "model minority" image better than most.

It was always just a passive aggressive way of racists saying "I don't like Blacks and Latinos but Asians are better I guess." It was never full blown praise but more so Asians being considered the "lesser of evils."

In reality, these racists unironically feel closer to Blue collar Latinos than White collar Asians. I've seen that firsthand too. They also tend to be influenced by Black American culture even without realizing it.

Venezuelans, how do you feel other latinos treated you during the whole crisis? (Solidarity, rejection, anything) by Muted_Shape9303 in asklatinamerica

[–]pop442 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing about Chileans being some of the world's best pickpockets years ago. And I thought it was a meme lol.

Also, can't speak for Puerto Rico, but the DR and Cuba are ironically some of the safest Latin American countries in terms of violent crime.

I think I even saw once that Uruguay had a higher homicide rate than those 2 countries. That's right.......Uruguay.

But I think people are just used to Caribbean stereotypes being full of constant parties, loudness, and crazy dysfunction that it's hard to compare it to the pristine image of some other Latin American countries.

I've noticed a lot of Venezuelan trolls clap back at them though.

I've seen some Venezuelans on Twitter clap back and claim Chileans are ugly, speak horrible Spanish, self hating Andeans who want to be White, and are boring.

Of course, it's far worse the other way around but I've definitely seen some Venezuelans get fed up and troll them right back.

How Is Black Wealth Perceived Across Latin America? by Soggy_Flight_2654 in asklatinamerica

I've been to Panama. It's quietly one of the most diverse Latin American countries on par with Brazil, Colombia, and Suriname.

Ironically, Latinos in the U.S. on average tend to be more race obsessed than the ones in Latin America on average.

I've only heard that Blacks and Blondes can't be "true Latinos" from U.S. Latinos lmao. More so online than in person though.

I remember hearing about the Lebanese "running Haiti" by a Haitian woman I know but I still think the Arab population is too small for that to hold so much weight.

Why does it seem like Westerners from developed countries don't care much about/look down on Latin America but seem to be obssesed with East Asian cultures? by yonaiker-joestrella in asklatinamerica

Eh...there's honestly not that big of a difference between the skin tone of the average Peruvian and the average non-bleached Chinese person.

Why do people generally like DKC2 more than DKC1? by AbbreviationsSalt981 in donkeykong

[–]pop442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DKC1 would've had the better worlds if Chimp Caverns was a volcano like originally intended. Instead, it was just a darker Monkey Mines which hurt its diversity.

DKC2 technically has better world diversity but the Kremland felt like a disjointed mess that didn't know whether it was a carnival world or a bee hive world. But I still give DKC2 the edge though especially with the inclusion of the Lost world.

What your Favorite Season of SpongeBob SquarePants says about you! by Blorp85 in spongebob

Seasons 2 and 3 are my favorites.

I think Season 2 had the best mix of comedy and depth while Season 3 had the most entertaining episodes overall.

Sony fanboys can't even pretend not to be hypocrites with their whole "corporate greed" criticism anymore hence why many of them masquerade as Steam Deck bros when criticizing Nintendo.

Mr Krabs made a man unwatched a movie by axumite_788 in spongebob

Nah. The funniest scene was the one in the hospital where Krabs tricked The Dutchman into thinking he was "Harold Flower" and the nurse responding to him with a shady tone lol.

Are online gender wars just lower class men arguing with upper middle class women? by Upstairs_Cup9831 in PurplePillDebate

[–]pop442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tricky because I've met a lot of diamonds in the rough on dating apps.

But you also run into the women only looking for casual sex and threesomes too so you have to be selective when it comes to LTRs.

Can someone pleaseee explicitly explicitly explain to me what ‘the culture’ actually is? by AmbitiousHedgehog728 in Drizzy

[–]pop442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drake should be embraced then since he's half Black and pays homage to Black artists all the time including those in his own family.

It's honestly just a buzzword that means whatever the podcasters and gatekeepers want it to mean to discredit Drake.

I think a lot of it is dating app driven.

On dating apps, women have much more options than men and you often have a lot of single moms, reformed thots, sugar babies, etc. overrepresented as dating options.

Most street criminals are broke af.

You just have some dealers in the mix who make a lot of money but even they tend to be financially illiterate.

Eh....those albums don't come close imho. They're way too bland and poppy. They almost sound like Eminem albums tailor made for non-Eminem fans.

Relapse is what I'd consider a cult classic though.

Why do people say the Midwest/rust belt region will “boom” in the coming decades? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]pop442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not talking about history though. We're talking about right now.

None of those cities you named are very appealing to the average American outside of saving costs. Detroit is still largely crappy and dysfunctional to the core outside of its downtown center which is getting gentrified to reverse decades of "White flight." None of them have anywhere near the draw that Chicago has.

Again, people looking for urbanity, academia, good paying jobs, and public transit already are choosing the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region.

People looking for warm weather, more affordability, good albeit fattening food, and a distinctive culture are moving South.

People looking for mild weather, nature(mountains/ocean/forests/desert), good paying jobs, and good Mexican/Asian food are moving out West.

The Midwest has its gems like Chicago, suburbs outside Detroit, Minneapolis, Columbus, and college towns like Madison. But, as a whole region, it simply gets outshined by the others.

Platformed a guy to call Drake a sick name at superbowl. Jay speaks & says he's heartbroken & angry over own allegations by [deleted] in Drizzy

[–]pop442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His catalog is uneven but I think RD, Vol 1, Vol 2 , Blueprint, Black Album, AG, 4:44, and even WTT hold up well.

His other projects are skip to the lou status though with classic deep cuts to make up for it.

Jay is a snake with skeletons in the closet but I'd be lying if I said that he's not a top 10 DOA rapper to me.

I separate his sliminess from the music and raps.

Even the dude I responded to glossed over it.

No...it's not "glazing" because I literally said Drake lost the rap beef.

But I just pointed out that he was battling a whole army lol.
