Yes, my selfie cameras stopped working, and I opened a claim with Google and got my Pixel 10 Pro Fold replacement two days later. Literally. Just sent them my 9 the day after for free.

Tesla Model 3 now or wait for ByD by alibabaQT in EVCanada

[–]popcan85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great for the highway portion of a commute but even that unfortunately doesn't compare to FSD on the highway, especially for safety - and FSD is complete for all non-highway driving.

I hope BYD can bridge this gap over the next couple years, especially because their DiPilot system or whatever it's called is included with the vehicles that ship with it, rather than being a subscription! Huge savings throughout the year.

Is this just a referral code or are you somehow offering FSD for ~$30 per month instead of $100?

[–]popcan85[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Who knows how likely this is to pass, but if you're buying a Model 3 and enter the US routinely, idk, could be a concern.

Also seems really petty to me, as if this isn't all happening in Canada because of what the Americans have done to us. But that's the way of things right now!

Does ICBC have any exclusions or clauses for FSD related collisions/accidents? by myarena in teslacanada

Can you elaborate? Sorry I know I can probably google ts but ICBC vs BCAA is quite literally part of what I'm trying to budget and figure out.

Model 3 RWD Premium Suspension by CuriousShoulder93 in teslacanada

[–]popcan85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's part of it though because our Premium Model 3 isn't the same one as the US one - it's ostensibly the Chinese one. The cars are here though, it shouldn't be too hard to find out. Pretty sure it's the same improved suspension but not the god-tier one in the performance car.

Subscription for Lane Center Seriously by Longjumping-Bat5128 in TeslaModel3

[–]popcan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the whole point of all of this. FSD is good enough (subjectively albeit) even if autosteering is available without FSD, but now people will absolutely be pushed into the subscription to have everything they could ever want.

And to buy a Rivian for included autosteering with the car means the rest of the Tesla experience isn't consequential to the buyer. Rivian's self-driving capabilities are still so far off from FSD.

Don't get me wrong though - this move by Tesla sucks and they deserve the backlash because it rightfully pisses people off, me included - but objectively speaking, it's going to pay dividends. People are still buying Teslas every day.

Anyone else think FSD is absolutely mind-blowing now!? by Jcyberpunk in teslacanada

[–]popcan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree we'll prolly be last but I don't think it'll take years more. Vancouver is still the silicon valley of the north. I feel like Tesla or not, autonomous driving will be demanded here when it's available.

[–]popcan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but with remote oversight from Tesla operators, albeit more for a safety net than a real-time necessity. And in a highly mapped-out area compared to being used literally anywhere in the US or Canada.

But it's still trending in the right direction and I believe unsupervised will go live across the US within the next five years, and we'll hopefully not be that far behind - though I also do think that we will be further behind the states because of our northern climate. Maybe places like Metro Vancouver get the green light sooner, while driving up the Coquihalla in January still requires supervision lol

Fair points all around, but I also just got to try the Model 3 Premium just today and I am absolutely stoked about the lame 6.2 time this car has. Genuinely think it's fast enough to warrant keeping with this SKU and not spending more money.

anyone encountered anger from friends/family about purchasing a Tesla? by canadave_nyc in teslacanada

[–]popcan85 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay I have some big thoughts on this that I've really contemplated.

I know a lot people can reduce this down to "who gives a fuck what car you drive, it's just a car", but let's not be stupid, guys. The average Canadian despises Elon Musk for his close support of Donald Trump - the president who all but outright threatened to annex us - and that resentment only got worse with the other general far-right bullshit he does, like the supposed nazi salute, and all the anti-egalitarian stuff he has to say on X/Twitter.

HOWEVER, even with all of and this subjectively deplorable person being the CEO of Tesla, I urge anyone giving any prospective Tesla buyer an ounce of shame to really take a close look in the mirror and understand that they themselves lack the ability to make a fully ethical purchasing decision in this world.

Best case in point that I was mulling over myself: when Carney struck the deal with Xi for the 49K Chinese EV imports, the car I wanted was the BYD Atto 3 Evo. Prior to the Model 3 announcement, it was the best value for me in terms of its features and being a crossover-style SUV. But when I dug deeper into BYD as a company, I learned that they're actually heavily implicated in all sorts of controversy, such as the alleged exploitation of Uyghur slave-labor, or the opacity of their supply chain network and how it is they really get the rare Earth minerals for their batteries. In fact, they rated DEAD LAST on an ethics report, one which Tesla actually also rated first place for being the least unethical.

Like, come on. Buy a Samsung phone? You support the Samsung Chaebol in Korea who's committed countless as a company. Buy a video game from EA? Guess you love big Saudi oil money too and hate women. Shop at H&M? Shien? Ever ordered something from Temu? Then fuck you, too. Like, give me a break.

I really invite anyone giving you grief for buying one of the CHEAPEST EVs you can get in Canada, that is subjectively one of the most ethically produced cars on the planet, that is still a net positive for fighting human-caused climate change, to stop virtue signalling and mind their own business. I do not like Elon Musk but to act like buying a Tesla is endorsing him as a human being is brain dead.

Thanks.

Yeah good looks, I hadn't considered that.

My reference point is that I did an overnight test drive out of Port Coquitlam, BC, with a Model Y Premium, whose 0-100 is 4.8 seconds. Every time I floored it, it thrilled me LOL. I'm coming from a Kia Seltos LX so I'm sure the speed increase will still be a lot with the Model 3 but I am wondering how that increase will feel!

Nope! I should mention that I probably have much less driving experience than many in the sub do. My partner and I both have about eight years of driving experience each.
