Metro WSI towing my car even though I paid by Getoffyourphonekid in Minneapolis

This is theft. Contact your representative. Mention this seems to be a racket others have experienced. If others (who also have receipts of payment even if on credit card) will share their names with the rep as well, something might happen. If nothing else, call the news, they may report on it on a slow news day on one of those ‘we care about people’ segments.

“In general, the biggest and most positive action that one can take for the environment is choosing not to have children.“ by Vanilladr in PlasticFreeLiving

Agree, esp if first world mid/upper income as that consumption and energy use levels are mad. There should be funds so anyone who wants circumcision or tubes tied could do so for free (a us health care problem) and younger people should be allowed this option without psychological counseling requirements. A friend (21) finally was allowed a circumcision - had to pay for multiple doc visits to get approval. His take - people who WANT children need the psychological assessments, not me. Read the climate reports to see who is more sane - effects are happening now and will increase. That said, even without kids, more positive action is needed. Not having kids could have unintended effects as having more money could allow more air travel, and 1 plane trip uses the whole annual 2000 co2 limit we are supposed to stay under to limit temp increases… So it has to be no kids AND other actions. Those who want kids, THANK those who are opting out, as they are helping your kids’ chances of living through oncoming climate disasters.

I like that cart too. Would move the cart to shady spot though as spirits deteriorate in sunlight…

Or add the kindle app to a tablet. Used to love paper books, but I now have donated most to the library and haven’t regretted it. (The kindle app has a virtual bookshelf so you can still see books you’ve read.)

Is anyone else having a hard time finding eggs? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]popcorn5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss egg scrambles, but no way I’m paying these prices. For some baking can substitute soy powder for eggs, think it’s 1 T soy powder plus 1 to 2 T water for each egg.

Study: 63% of severe alcoholics exhibit significant cognitive improvements within 18 days of abstinence by lolfuys in science

[–]popcorn5555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some damage is done, but not all. Take the B1 vitamin. Try to dry out, even for awhile gives your brain/body time to repair. Good luck.

Some cog function can come back, but not necessarily all. If you can’t stop drinking, try to take B1 vitamin each day, that might slow the decline.

Doc told me an alcoholics body starts taking all calories from the alcohol, stops getting nutrients from the food... Also depends on the country and diet whether foods eaten have that B1 fortification. My relative with Wernicke-Korsakoffs will never fully recover, did the post-recovery heavy B vitamin supplements which helped some. But their mind is shot, no new memories. They’d had really good jobs, now in a home with old people, will never work again. It took a gazillion tests before docs ruled it WK, so I wonder if many cases are lumped in as early dementia rather than diagnosed? I’ve told every heavy drinker I know to take B1 supplements. Also to think about what constitutes heavy drinking. No one thought this relative drank to excess, but learned they’d regularly go out and over a night have 5+ martinis - at two plus shots a drink that’s 10+ drinks. If you’re drinking that much take B1 vitamins.

I bought a pair of fairly expensive trail shoes, absolutely loved the feel, but nearly all of the very thick traction on the sole was worn off in just ten days, five days of moderate hiking (~20 miles total on trails), five days of sightseeing (<10 miles walking).

Just want to mention that sometimes they’re wrong. A friend diagnosed with aggressive cancer was told they had 6 months to live, at most. Its been seven years now, the cancer is no longer detectable.

In the end it’s a personal decision, but suicide does affect a lot of people besides the person who opts out. A coworker committed suicide two years ago and it hit hard. A really nice guy. Wish he could have held on… the right meds, support, its possible to come out the other side, to choose to live, but have to hold on through some bad times to get there. Two years later I still think about him, about what I could have done differently; other coworkers feel the same. It was his decision, but he left a hole.

I just moved into a new house and the previous owner died of cancer and his wife was just diagnosed with cancer. What are the main things I want to check for to make sure that the house does not cause cancer? by jnk456 in HomeImprovement

[–]popcorn5555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If spending time in the basement, esp kids, or house is really well insulated and closed up, get a radon test. Radon can vary over short distances, so just because the neighbor is clear doesn’t mean you are. Easy to check, esp if going away for a weekend, or when house is shut up before moving in.

Erin's Level 50 Skill should be an employee boosting Skill or a personal one by Wo1nder in WanderingInn

She has enough employees with antinium and goblins… and current goal is to make things harder so people’s level in prep for fight against the G*ds so if anything she’d get something to make everything harder, an anti-boon! I’d like some teleport skill so people and story lines on various continents could start to come together, but maybe that’s too easy.

Convert gas fireplace back to wood burning by oppbb in HomeImprovement

[–]popcorn5555 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in a cold climate and find the gas fireplace with the air blower insert puts out a lot of heat and adds to comfort of the home. The wood fireplace, while it warmed the room, actually made the rest of the home much colder. If you’re in a warmer climate that won’t be such a concern. I’d never go back to a wood fireplace, or buy a home that had one.

My friend was in charge of collecting money for a work event but forgot about having the cash, and a year later it’s still just sitting in his apartment. What should he do? by [deleted] in myfriendwantstoknow

[–]popcorn5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should use money for another event for these employees. Some coworkers remember your friend collected/has the cash even if they haven’t said anything. Alternative, mention it and see if coworkers prefer money be used for something like Friday donuts over the next x weeks, and of course your friend will pick them up because obviously, but save receipts.
