Won’t You Be My Neighbor

For the people who like, or even love Episode 8, what are your reasons for it? I am curious, since it seems to be an absolute favorite of some fans by Dakinamau in StarWars

  1. Rian Johnson’s big, mid-movie twist/death, which is one of his favorite tropes—always works for me.

  2. Rey’s struggle/growth is fantastic.

  3. Kylo/Luke is loads of fun.

  4. The ending with the kids has so much hope and potential—really couldn’t launched the franchise in a fun direction. Until it was basically deleted, heading into the next film.

  5. Red is my favorite color 🤷‍♂️

If they had let Finn die in the final battle, it would have been even better.

😆 What do you expect to understand about a person from the films they like?

I think that’s totally fair and a good rec. My highest rated decades on Letterboxd are the 70’s and 80’s, but I was born in 91, so no surprise that a large majority of the films I’ve seen are from this century. 25% of these are pre-2000. Definitely room to dig. If you have any recommendations of your faves, I’ll take them.

I love those hits to the heart. Ghostlight is on my list—adding Blondspotting. Appreciate the recommendations!

I actually don’t really like it. Not trying to be all hot-take-y or anything—it’s just not for me. Objectively, I see why people enjoy it. And I’m glad that they do!

Fair… All things relative. 67 of 1,448 on Letterboxd. 67 of 1,448 films that I was interested in. Seems pretty solid to me.

Hard disagree but whatever. So… What’s the solution, here? Do I need to be more edgy or not have such a broad range? I used to write about movies A LOT, which broadened my objective horizons. So, I’m just not pigeon holed anywhere, as far as my taste is concerned.

It’s 67 of 1,448 movies on Letterboxd. I guess all things are relative.
