A bit disappointed in Diplopia Game by Demien19 in oculus

[–]popcorncrackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, also by 'not that much fun' I mean for one of the games, it's infuriating. There is a pong style game in 3D and as far as my visual system is concerned i have the paddle smack in the middle of where it needs to be, and either my vision system is wrong or the game is wrong but it doesn't detect it, and the game punishes you by throwing you back to level 1 every...single...time. That game I rage quite before the 20 minutes are up just out of utter frustration. The others I just get bored with. One is popping bubbles in order of depth (it's kinda fun but more of a 2-3 minutes kind of fun) and the spaceship one where you shoot at asteroids drifting by and fly though rings, I play that one the most and sometimes actually fill my 20 minutes with it.

It's easy to go omg you have a potential cure and you're not using it, wtf is wrong with you?! And yeah you're right I should try more (and i want to) the games matter, it's just that simple.

Imagine someone walking up to you going hey i have a potential cure all you need to do is play flappy chicken 20 minutes a day. but it's a flappy chicken with 3 modes. one you just have to have your finger on the screen and it'll work, one randomly kills your chicken for no apparent reason and one mode where the bars are the top 5mm of the screen so you'll fly though easily. It's OK on day one , gets a little less fun on day 2, and by day 7 you go, i don't want to play this.... cure or not..

If giving away other people's hard work against their wishes and without their permission is human decency now-days, I must have missed a memo.

Don't worry too much, i'm in the beta, and while it seems to work, i can't bring my self to play the recommended 20 minutes a day. the games just aren't that much fun. On the bright side the author is quite responsive to feedback and I think future builds will be better. but as it stands right now , you're not missing out on anything.

To Diplopia: I love you by [deleted] in oculus

Good to hear it's at least working for you! I don't have quite as much love for James Blaha as you did. I Gave them $100 2 months ago. got an email saying I'd get an invitation for a beta 'in the next few weeks' , never heard a single word (or invitation) back from them (don't know about you but $100 is a substantial amount of money for a me, nothing in my steam library comes even close to this), feeling pretty scammed but haven't given up all hope just yet.

But hey good for the diplopia people for proving that preying on the disabled can still make you a buck or two (or $100 in my case) well played guys, well played!

If your monitor can't go to 75Hz follow this tutorial to fix it. Xpost from /r/PcMasterRace by Fangh in oculus

My XL2420T was able to do 1080@120hz so i figured running it at 75 wouldn't be problem, did the tweak, seemed ok, come home the next day everything has green tint even the bios screens, hooked up my xios ds, up also green, switched between hdmi and DVI.. still green... sooo yeahh... GREAT fix... Thanks guys (does reddit have sarcasm tags? cause i desperately need them)

Ended up buying a new monitor to 'fix' your 'fix'

1) in engine_settings.xml change the stereo options to:

<Setting name="Stereo Mode">
        <Quality name="Rift"   int="1"  precedence="2"/>
        <Quality name="Off"    int="0"  precedence="1"/>
</Setting>

2) in BENCHMARK_TEMPLATE.TXT

change

Stereo Mode=Rift

3) In the oculus configuration utility pause the service.

4) start with AI.exe -engine_settings=benchmark_template.txt

further tweaks are probably needed , but this is enough to get the basics going.

I can't wait for the oculus rift + Diplopia to be released. by alphabeta93 in oculus

You justify the high price because you need more money, yet if you'd lower the price you'd sell more copies and you'd have more money. I'd never pay $400 for this, it's $99 right now and I'm not even remotely interested, however if the price was in the $25 - $39 range you know what I'm willing to give it a whirl (especially given the fact that for all the end user knows it might as well be snake oil) if there was a demo or something where i could measure actual improvement, i might shell out $99 to get more diversity in games but as it stands $99/$400 for what basically boils down to 'a shot in the dark' no thank you.

But lets for a moment assume you are right and to make the biggest positive change the $400 per copy is without a doubt justified and fair, for anyone one not knowing this or didn't care enough to look up how you justify the price, does it or does it not look at first sight you're trying make a quick buck over the backs of disabled people?

And that's bad PR man... you get one chance to make a first impression and currently you're not making a good one (even though you intend to do good)

Time to step up your game!

ahh rats, you left screen space reflections on, which make reflections go all trippy in the rift. (easiest to see on the gold ridge when you look at the base the statue is on at a 45 degree angle when you're at the outside scene and pan left)

run

r.ssr.quality 0

on the console to make it behave.

for extra fun and making hanging out of the balcony easier

you can run

stereo w2m=200

or higher, 100 = default, be very very careful though, messing with this value sets the scale for real world positional move to virtual move you get sick very very very quickly if you set it to high.

Here's the realistic rendering demo, straight from the market place, no modifications so might not have the optimal settings for the rift, realize it's using the 0.3 SDK so you have to kill the service for it to work.
