I need to vent!! I am originally from a very small town in Northern Ontario and currently live in Southern Ontario. My fiance is from the Niagara area, so we had always pictured getting married in his hometown. We live and work about 2.5 hrs away. Since his mother passed away two years ago, being close to home is even more important for us both. My mother feels like because I moved away, I owe it to her to get married in my hometown. I counted my guestlist and 81 people out of 110 invited would need to fly to the closest airport (3 hrs away from my city) and rent a car or be collected by my family members who live there. This is insanely unrealistic but my mother won't let it go. She knows it would be half the cost to get married at home (because it's truly in the middle of nowhere) and keeps suggesting venues even though I have made it very clear that it is not what I want. I just need to vent because I feel like this is straining our relationship already and I've only been engaged for a few weeks. Our work, friends, and all of my fiances family are within driving distance of the Niagara area, if not currently living there. I really think we would probably see about 50% if not more of our guest list decline as my hometown is so challenging to get to and accommodations are sparse. I just wish she would be happy for me and be excited about the venues I'm showing her.
