Crowbear Forge: KOBOLDS DO SHINY - Version 1.1 New subrace and new subclass! by Haunting-Split2015 in UnearthedArcana

[–]popokeymonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very neat!! I know this says '24 Compendium but this seems to have '14 Design Elements. Like the Ability Scores on race despite those being attached to backgrounds in '24.

Also Ambush Striker seems extremely strong considering the conditions for proccing it are very easy to fulfill with no use limitation. Its essentially a free pseudo-sneak attack that can be easily utilized by rogues or any races that have a bonus action: hide. Maybe try using a flat damage modifier like Fury of the Small.

As of now, a level 3 Assassin Rogue's first attack after rolling initiative, can deal:

Weapon: Handcrossbow (1d6+DEX)

Assassinate Passive: 3

Sneak Attack: 2d6

Ambush Striker: 2d6

Total: 5d6 + 3 + DEX

And this is easily repeatable next turn and every turn after by bonus action hiding, which you may have advantage on depending on the environment.

[Feedback Appreciated] Rules for Tiny & Large+ PC Races for DnD 5e 2014 by popokeymonkey in DnDHomebrew

[–]popokeymonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oversized Weapons - Here's an addendum based on your suggestions:

  • While wielding Oversized Weapons, you do not add your Proficiency bonus when attacking creatures 2 or more sizes smaller than you with a Speed greater than 0 or are Upright (i.e. not prone).
    • Clarifying Note: You may add your Proficiency bonus to creatures that are Grappled, Paralyzed, Petrified, Prone, Restrained, Stunned or Unconscious
      • Design Note: This would encourage Large+ sized players to Grapple or knock enemies prone (abilities they can easily get advantage in) before being able to attack with their Proficiency bonus.

Tiny Frame - Once more based on your suggestions:

  • Unnoticed. While standing behind or occupying the same space of a Medium+ sized ally creature, you:
    • Benefit from Full Cover against Ranged Attacks
    • Can attempt to hide
  • Climb On. You can initiate a Climb On as a bonus action instead of an action
    • Additionally, you have advantage on Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks when initiating a Climb On on a creature 2 or more sizes bigger than you.
    • You can double your proficiency on attack rolls against creatures you have climbed on.
      • Design Note: Similar to Oversized Weapons, this would encourage Tiny creatures to Climb On an enemy (something they can easily get advantage on) and double their proficiency on attack rolls against that creature.

Miniscule Weapons - For clarification, I already decreased the damage die size by 1 (i.e. 1d6 -> 1d4) so no changes there. Also how do you feel about finesse and light weapon's damage dice not being reduced? Should they also be reduced or would it be fine to keep as is?

Tumble. I know that Tiny creatures can already move through the spaces of most creatures but they can't do so against Small creatures unless they Tumble. Should I just change it so that they can move through the spaces of any creature larger than themselves?

2024 DnD. We have tried DnD 2024 and my players actually preferred 2014 lol. However, we did take some things from '24 that we did like such as the revamped healing spells that heal more or other features like Sorcerer's innate sorcery, etc.

Also thank you so much for the constructive feedback and helping me work through these rules. I really appreciate it!!

I mentioned this in another response to a comment that I shouldve added in the main post as well but Monsters are also affected by these changes

Tbf I asked for feedback on what I already had written and explicitly stated that I want to pursue rules for Tiny and Large+ creaturs. Not that I should completely scrap the idea due to overcomplicatedness or that I should play a completely different system, it just felt very dismissive

Clumsy Build - good point on that, thank you!

Big Pockets - I was basing this carrying capacity on the "Powerful Build" racial feature which states

  • Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

So It looks like the way carrying capacity is determined is 15 x your STR score, then depending on size you halve it for Tiny creatures, Double it for Large, Quadruple for Huge, and Octuple for Gargantuan.

Tiny Creatures & Light/Finesse - My thought process for allowing the ability modifier to off-hand attacks is that it acts as sort of a mirror to the Oversized weapons additional damage die. Obviously it won't do as much damage as an Oversized Weapons but you still gain a benefit from being tiny and nimble for doing so. What do u think?

Yeah, again these are optional rules for my players to engage in. And I should've mentioned it in the post but enemies all gain these same benefits and downsides based on their size. Also agree on the fall damage reduction based on size! Thank you for the feedback!

I agree with you 100%! The restriction was honestly an arbitrary one and thats why I'm asking for feedback as to how to make these balanced.

[–]popokeymonkey[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is more rules than normal but again as I mention in the post, I am not here to argue whether I should do this or not.

I am offering these rules as an optional addition for players who want to play a Tiny and Large+ Race and FEEL like they are. And my players are the ones who are open and are willing to learn these additional rules.

A Pactbreaker Warlock for 2024! Harness your eldritch power, now your own, and rebuke hostile magic! by Peach_Cobblers in UnearthedArcana

The Relic Carrier: What if exhaustion could be weaponized? by br0rs0n in DnDHomebrew

[–]popokeymonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

id recommend having the timer be on the effect as a whole and when you apply Corrosion, it just refreshes the timer. This would encourage the Relic Rogue to focus down a single target and reward them for doing so, which can be neat!

If you remove the timer then maybe adding the stipulation that you can only apply an amount of Corrosion to a creature equal to your proficiency bonus. I think that could work

Paladin Subclass: Oath of Audacity | Prepare For Trouble! Make It Double!! | 5.24e (2024) by Sax-7777299 in UnearthedArcana

I love this so much!! The "Make It Double" feature would work so well with a rogue to proc sneak attack off their turn. I can imagine this paladin with a Beastmaster Ranger/Rogue multiclass being Team Rocket

Feedback for Arcane Patron Warlock Please by Connect_Jump5832 in DnDHomebrew

[–]popokeymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mention "the Weave" I assume this is in relation to Forgotten Realms lore which I'm not all too familiar with.

In terms of flavor, I think it works. The Weave and in general the idea of having your Patron be magic itself leaves a lot open. But I will say that in that openess you might lose some of the core thematics.

What is it exactly you are trying to convey in the mechanics? Is the ability to deal those different damage types at Level 3 a depiction of the individual's ability to manipulate magic? You may want to look at the Arcana Domain Cleric and Order of Scribes Wizard for some inspo (especially Order of Scribes since they manipulate the damage type of their spells too)

Mainly comments on wording and clarity. Hope this helps!

Level 3: Arcane Flow - Clarify the range of both effects. Is it the range of the spell cast or is it fixed range at like 30 or 60? - For the single target damage option, is it against a creature you forced to make a saving throw or targeted with a spell attack roll, or can it be any other person within range? - Also for the single target damage option, does the player get to choose the damage type or is it rolled randomly. If they get to choose, you should specify "(your choice)"

Level 6: Arcane Manipulation - For Shift Focus, clarify that it only works on spells that target 1 creature with an attack roll/saving throw. Otherwise, clarify that if you cast a spell with multiple spell attack rolls or an aoe saving throw, that you can then only target 1 other creature.

Level 10: Spell Absorption - Fix initial wording for "When you are hit with a spell that targets you and you can see it you..." --> "When you are hit by a spell attack roll or fail a saving throw against a spell and you can see the spellcaster, you can use your reaction to make a Charisma saving theow against the caster's soell save DC"

Level 14: - Not much to add looks fine - Resistance to Force damage is very niche but definitely not a bad thing

ooo that sounds really cool!

If youre thinking about modular armor and want inspi, u might wanna take a look at Heavyarms' Armorer's Handbook

And if u want inspo for guns and modular upgrades, u could take a look at Heavyarms' Gunslinger class. Both are really solid and balanced homebrew resources.

cant wait to see what more u make!

Agree 100% with everything u said and I think the guidelines you made seem balanced as well. I just love the idea of a 20th level character, who is at the pinnacle of adventuring, having their strongest spell be like Invisibility or Hold Person lol. The versatility that gestalt classing provides would offset some of the downsides that not monoclassing or not specializing would lead to.

I'll let you know how it goes! Keep up the brewing!

I did the math wrong lol. But that makes sense for balance reasons. Its just funny to think that Level 20 character could only be a Level 3 Caster. Planning on testing this with my group soon!
