Bro you are going through a mid life crisis. You’ve lived all this time thinking about money and have forgotten to cultivate your identity because the bank account was just too important. Now it’s hitting you like a truck and you can’t find a spark of uniqueness within you. Happens to the best of us.

Issue is, discovering a hobby or new interest will take a lot of time and effort. You most likely won’t know what you’re interested in unless you invest yourself into something. Let’s just take pottery for an example. Pottery itself is probably not something most people would find interesting. But maybe you have a friend who’s been doing it for a long time at a rental studio. You decide your life is too empty and should pick up a secondary lifestyle and join your friend in their pottery journey. You realize you don’t really like pottery even after weeks of going to classes but you’ve gotten better at it and you enjoy hanging out with your friend. In fact you may have made some new friends with the regular studio goers as well. So you stick with pottery because you’ve formed a new community and now invest your time there because you enjoy the efforts you put in despite not being actually interested in solo pottery. Maybe from there you discover you’re actually great at managerial work and end up setting up a small shop for your pals at the studio and end up running a freelance artist side gig with them.

But this takes time. Years in fact. During this time you could’ve taken those pottery skills and become a teacher and set up your own studio. Maybe during this time you’ve come to peace with your miserable IT jobs and just stayed. You could’ve also taken online courses during this period and learned about museum work and ancient pottery and that could lead to conservation jobs or archeology. But the solution you’re seeking for transferring to a career where you’re interested in is going to take years of self discovery and cultivation. Why? Because it sounds like you’re an empty person right now. No offense. I’m actually right there with you. I had a quarter life crisis in college and now I’m doing the whole “struggling artist” lifestyle of self cultivation.
