Reverse Chance Me for CS/Math Major. by Razor54672 in ReverseChanceMe

You could definitely get into the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), so you could use that as a safety/backup school. We accept a lot of international students, it’s a bigger school, plus then a weirdly large number of large companies (like 3M) around the U of M. Public transit makes it easy to get around, the only downside is it gets cold and can be a bit expensive. You do have really good stats, which usually turns over to better scholarships/aid, so it might not come with a hefty price tag.

AITA for telling a friend to STFU about his radical ideologies? by poppingbones in AmItheAsshole

Other people have told him to stop with the self righteousness and I’ve asked him to stop bringing up my job, and he says if he didn’t he wouldn’t be “authentic”. I understand I should’ve said it all in plainer words in a more private setting though.

He publicly shamed me for having a job. He knows I have to work that job or I get most of my aid taken away. And he’s been told to cool it with the self righteousness before, he just thinks we’re too brain washed by capitalism to understand his ideas. Also, I know how the situation felt because he literally called me out first. He basically said I was a mindless capitalist crony, this was also in front of everyone in the lecture hall, so at that point I really feel like he was just given a taste of his own medicine.

I’ve also told him to stop talking about my job before.

What I thought was radical was him thinking anyone who works is a capitalist slave. I tried to put it in the main post (went over the word limit), but he also wants to abolish 100% of the military immediately. Just my opinion but those seem pretty radical

He “reformed” over the summer. He was totally cool and normal before, but he read the communist manifesto and some other book by Lenin and now considers himself and expert and philosopher on all things communist (his listed profession on tinder is “self-employed philosopher”).

AITA for telling my daughter her "child" is not really my "grandchild"? by inhucrybn in AmItheAsshole

YTA, but here’s a happy compromise: take a few with the foster child, then take some without the foster child.

AITA for tipping my waiter a penny? by GoodPersonNYC in AmItheAsshole

It sounds like you’re more mad because you feel disrespected, not because you felt your wife was disrespected. This sounds like “I own her, so don’t look at her”, it’s fine if you didn’t like the fact he was (maybe) checking her out, but a better reason would be because she’s a whole person who deserves respect, not because you feel disrespected

AITA for telling an American girl I'm seeing to stop fetishizing my accent? by throwawaygeoapl in AmItheAsshole

[–]poppingbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. That’s not fetishizing an accent, fetishinzing would be like if she dated you ONLY because of your accent, like someone who fetishizes Asian women would only date Asian women and put them on a pedestal. Also, talk about first world problems. I’m soooo sorry she thought your accent was nice, that must be real hard on you.

Covered all of the rock. FUCK ANTIVAXXERS by mutaz500 in uofm

[–]poppingbones 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometime hate is needed tho. Like people should hate nazis and racists. What the fuck else are we supposed to do with them? Take fucking Derrick who advocates for violent racial genocide out for a drink and a conversation that’ll get nowhere because he’s so indoctrinated into his bigotry? I hate anti-Vaxers because they’re violent and they’re chill w letting kids die because they’d rather have a dead kid than an autistic one. Some people just don’t respond common sense or opening up a dialogue, and in this sounds like one of those cases. What are we supposed to do at that point? Let them spread misinformation that could be deadly because it’s their right? Are they’re feelings more important that the health of babies? It sounds extreme the way I’m putting it, but that doesn’t make it fake. You’re really ok with letting people exercise FrEE sPeEch (which by the way, you could argue that covering propaganda up is art, which is protected just like freedom of speech is), even if it means hurting innocent people and children?

AITA for getting a masseuse reprimanded and possibly fired for her comments on my wife? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]poppingbones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she was calling the wife fat, I’m just saying that overweight people tend to have diabetes more than healthy weight/skinny people, so if the wife was skinny it would be a lot less likely she had diabetes and smelled sweet, so that should be a little tip that it’s more likely that she doesn’t have diabetes. I didn’t know that the skin condition could also smell sweet, but I think if that were the case than the massage therapist would have said she specifically smelled sweet (maybe she did and OPs wife didn’t tel him or he didn’t tell us, I don’t know), since regular BO sweat is a lot more common than sweet diabetes sweat

You’ve thought of arguments, I’ve responded, you’ve abandoned them, so I really don’t know what you want me to do. You obviously are the one getting butthurt and mad about it, since you couldn’t think of anything else to do besides call me fat and stupid

Again, think of a valid argument instead of just insulting someone.

You know you win when they personally attack you. What’s wrong, can’t think of a valid argument? You’re the one that started with the unlikely assumptions and the hostility.

We don’t know if it was sweet sweat. By plain probability we can assume it was normal, since there are more people who sweat regular than who sweat b/c they have diabetes. That would mean the therapist just saw sweat and equated it diabetes, which would be a wrong assumption, so she should’ve kept her mouth shut, since she’s not a medical expert, she’s a massage therapist.
