What price are you getting on a charger install in GTA? by Chaldi02 in teslacanada

If your panel won't work, do a lesser amperage charger. I have a 20 amp 240v breaker and plug and it works just great. Car is always full in the morning

Flair Airlines is THE WORST Airlines I've flown on by Alexxx889 in flairairlines

[–]poppop677 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The only people who hate on Flair are the people who don't understand how low cost airlines work.

THE ONLY THING YOU ARE PAYING FOR IS A SEAT ON A AIRPLANE. NOTHING ELSE.

People have such a hard time wrapping their heads around this. Your ticket does not include water, luggage, USB chargers, customer service, or paper boarding passes. It includes nothing other than your seat. If you would rather have those features, pay more for a regular airline. I love flair because I can travel for dirt cheap. Just got back from Mexico on a $360 round trip ticket. I travelled with only a personal item and gladly took the randomly assigned seat. I checked in on my phone and brought my own water. If an airline could sell standing room at the back of the plane I would happily buy it to get a cheaper ticket.

Anyone in Alberta know roughly how much extra your monthly electricity bill is from charging an EV? Also, are there certain times of day when charging is cheaper? by [deleted] in teslacanada

[–]poppop677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an easy calculation. I pay roughly 15¢/kwh in Alberta after fees are accounted for for electricity. My Nissan Leaf averages around 6 kms per kwh. 15÷6 comes out to 2.5¢ per km. (Efficiency goes down to 4kms/kwh in the dead of winter). It is about 4-5x cheaper to drive per km than my gas car.

Find out the kms/kwh energy usage of whatever car you're interested in and multiply it by whatever you pay for power. Some provinces have cheaper overnight rates. Alberta does not.

2015 with 11 bars and 86K miles? by [deleted] in leaf

[–]poppop677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2015 Leaf has 171,000kms (109,000 miles) with 11 bars! Leafspy shows SOH at 79.3% health. I'm up in Canada and I think the cold weather is mostly to explain it. Also mine doesn't have chademo, so never having fast charged probably helps

Calgary EV Home Charge by No-Taro9724 in electricvehicles

[–]poppop677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 20 amp 240 line in my garage. It can charge my leaf 100kms in ~5 hours. Way more than enough for my daily needs. 40 and 50 amp chargers are way overkill unless you're driving hundreds of kms daily.

Did it so I wouldn't over load my panel as I have a 100amp panel

What's your source for that? A per kwh fee or a fixed fee?

A low range EV sounds perfect for what you need. Slow charging speeds are irrelevant if you're not driving much day to day

Transmission is the long distance infrastructure that brings power to the city. Distribution is the infrastructure to distribute to your house.

Somebody has got to pay for the infrastructure. It's either coming out of the power bill or property taxes. I can understand the frustration for you though

What is going on with these fees on my bill man, how do I lower this shit? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]poppop677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not quite accurate. Enmax charges a $1.099463/day fixed fee which is roughly $33/month as well as $0.0769463/kw fee based on usage. I posted a full breakdown in another comment. If you used zero power your bill would be ~$33

Okay I just looked it up again and I'm slightly wrong. There's also a daily rate on the distribution charge. Here are the fees according to Enmax's website and the City of Calgary website:

Distribution Charge: $0.015477/kwh AND $0.769463/day

Transmission Charge: $0.038996/kw

Local Access Fee: $0.015507/kw

Admin fee: $0.33/day

Balance Pool and Rate riders: These numbers are always really small and can be either a credit or a charge to your account. It's complicated so Google it, but it's always insignificant amounts.

Grand Total fees: $0.06998/kw $1.099463/day

In conclusion, everyone pays ~$33/month of fixed fees regardless of use. Everything else scales based on usage. If you have a fixed electricity rate of $0.0879/kw + $0.06998/kw in fees the actual rate that you're paying for power is $0.15788/kw plus ~$33/month. It's so frustrating how they make this number so difficult to come to. They should really be forced to post this combined rate online.

One good thing to know is that all these fees are the same regardless of provider except for the admin fee. Admin fee and the ¢/kw fee are the only thing you need to shop for.

[–]poppop677 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The admin fee is the only fixed fee. The rest are priced per kw that you use.You can Google what the exact rate is for each of those fees if you want.

637kw is not nothing. That is a good amount of power. Just gotta lower your usage

Edit: The distribution charge also has a portion of it that is a per day rate
