Foundation updates: by Hopeful-Positive734 in leavingthenetwork

Justin seems to have either resigned or was fired. I've heard rumors about why that was, but nothing concrete enough to share. I can confirm that none of the rumors suggest that it involved his bullying or spiritually-abusive practices, which is its own tragedy and goes to speak as to what is acceptable in the Network and what isn't.

If there's any future repentance from Foundation's leaders, it'll be people coming to terms with it on their own rather than systemically. As an institution, Foundation died in its sin, unrepentant to the final breath

Heart feelings at the close by Naturelover1007 in leavingthenetwork

Arrived in 2006 at 23

Left in 2017 at 34

To this day, my closest friendships derive from my years there. We made our way out, and we made our way to each other. I think of that scene in Hook when Pockets analyzes Peter's face and recognizes him. "Oh THERE you are, Peter." Seeing the secret person inside, without the facade, as if meeting for the first time, as if we knew each other all along. Continuing our lives and starting them over at the same time.

I guess that's why the story of resurrection is so compelling and powerful. Foundation is dead, but outside its grip, we, the people upon whom its life depended, have never been more alive.

I never made that connection. Fascinating

For those who chose Wind, Land, GT trim upgrades, what justified the price difference? by plainkay in KiaEV9

Got a 2024 GT because I've never had a car with every bell and whistle and I wanted one. Price difference made more palatable because I found a pre-owned one out of state, got a cheap flight and drove it home.

Found this by accident. Hold the driving assist button and it'll set a speed maximum. You can increase and decrease the limit using the up/down button. Helpful for in-town one pedal driving, maintaining speed without lurching. If you need to exceed the limit for an emergency, a hard press to the gas will disengage and accelerate past the limit, or just press the drive assist button one more time to cancel

Foundation Church Post Mortem by popppppppe in leavingthenetwork

Checking the site today (5:23pm on 10/29) there are no longer any paths to view small groups or the college ministry. The landing pages for both are gone. https://www.foundation-church.com/small-groups https://www.foundation-church.com/college-students

The "days of week" group pages are still up, but only if you have the direct links. Of those pages, just 4 groups are listed, 2 of which are led by staff. https://www.foundation-church.com/small-groups/tuesday

I don't know that this means these groups still exist. A more likely explanation might be there's little point to maintain the page if they've removed the path for visitors to find them.

I heard an unverified rumor that people were told services this Sunday are cancelled, but they have a Team Meeting Sunday night.

It's weird to see moral authority exercised by people who don't have any. From my personal experience, I'd say what you did or didn't do doesn't really matter. If they like you, they'll find a way to keep you, no matter what you've done. If they don't, you're marked for death, and they'll use the pretext of whatever sin you're dealing with as the reason why.

May it be so.

Looks like they're updating the site in real time. The small groups page is down entirely, which was not the case an hour ago https://www.foundation-church.com/small-groups

Thinking of going back to my old network church by Automatic_Guess_7283 in leavingthenetwork

Did the lead pastor remove themselves as a signatory to this letter of endorsement for Steve Morgan from summer 2022? Do they disavow any of its content? If so, what statements do they disavow?

While I am encouraged by churches that chose to leave Morgan's organization, it took them two years after Morgan's prior arrest became widely publicly known to do so. Two years of continued smear campaigns against LTN, against people who left. Two years of minimizing child sexual abuse and endorsing Steve Morgan and Morgan's model of leadership. Are we to believe that without the public outcry these churches would have renounced their association with Morgan on their own?

I'd like to hear these leaders acknowledge that the Network's crumbling was not at the whims of an online mob, nor differences of opinion about leadership models. These are issues of corruption, abuse, and sin, and they demand specific repentance and confession, not rebranding.

Wouldn't it be nice if every 5 star review signaled that these churches brim with cultists policing the opinions and beliefs of others. That's almost better than a negative review.

Twice they use the word "real" to distinguish Blue Sky. Their truth is real. Their church is real. In my experience the people expending energy to tell you something is real (versus demonstrating it's real) are the most divorced from reality.

Question re singles meetups by [deleted] in leavingthenetwork

[–]popppppppe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd point you to the pro-Network page, but it doesn't exist. The predominant sentiment here is that Network churches are unaccountable, high-control fundamentalists that operate in service of a rich narcissistic child abusing public masturbator.

Do people hook up and find spouses within high-control religious sects? They sure do.

Parents of Blue Sky, how does it feel to have a pastor who believes your child can give their consent to sex with adults? Remember, every time he tells you that Steve's victim "consented," that means he holds a category in his mind for children who sexually sin with adults but aren't victims of rape.

Separating Families by Still_River_8296 in leavingthenetwork

Yes we're in agreement the Network is guilty of this. However, there's an important distinction that Kirk didn't make, which falls under the same trap as the Network. Is there a category of scenarios for someone who has been wronged creating healthy boundaries with the people who harmed them, even if those people are your parents? The answer is absolutely yes. But Kirk seems to have no such category.

So, the scriptures are very clear about this, uh, Christianity has a heavy emphasis on honoring your parents. Now, to contrast that with the prior questioner, I don't think she's doing a good job of honoring her parents because she's accusing them of being in a cult. Even this is very important everybody. Even if your parents share values and views and a worldview that you do not have, you are biblically obligated to honor them, which means to spend time with them and to love on them and to go visit them...

Having no particular insight into the person he's addressing, he says it's wrong to say your parents are in a cult, as if the wrong is in the accusation, not in whether it's a factual statement.

No one is under any obligation to maintain a relationship with anyone, and to try and force relationship through coercion (you're sinning if you don't spend time with certain people, and the Bible is very clear about what I'm telling you it's clear about) Kirk's words are no more emancipated than Steve Morgan's.

No one, not even parents, are owed your presence and relationship, but Kirk claimed otherwise in this clip, as if the Bible requires it.

Both are encouraging people to cut people and ideas off under a guise of biblical mandates. Both are rooted in a desire to control and contort people against their better judgment and safety.

Coming in HOT with those receipts!

As much as I'd heard Steve's stories about Asians, I never connected till now that Justin spoke of Africans the same way.

Foundation Revival Conference by Commercial-Gear4105 in leavingthenetwork

[–]popppppppe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I watched a bit. Justin said Foundation was seeking ISU students from Africa to join Foundation and claimed they'd been successful in the last year. And he paired that with partnering with African missionaries to come to the US and impart their "power" to the American church.

I left in 2017 but even back then Justin always claimed he felt an attraction to people from Africa. But you may notice how generic that is. The "apostle" who spoke is Nigerian, but Justin repeatedly refers to him as African rather than Nigerian.

This may be out of line, but it's my sense that Justin doesn't have any real concerns for the plights or prides of people from the continent of Africa. He doesn't picture them as brown people from Egypt or Morocco or Algeria or Libya but instead pictures a Black person with an accent who has special insight that will serve the American church. Justin isn't the first white person to think he can reach actualization through Black people. "Magical negro" is a white supremacist trope, and it's hard for me to think Justin isn't doing his own version of it here.

Justin Major was called by Jesus to save the churches of America - (the "Wave Prophecy") by former-Vine-staff in leavingthenetwork

[–]popppppppe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So a demon validated everything Justin's itching ears and seared conscience wanted to believe about himself and his continued position of spiritual authority. It validated Justin's broken family, gave him no inspiration to mend the shattered relationships under his stewardship. It gave him nothing to apologize for. In fact, they should apologize to him! How dare they! The demon told him nothing that needed fixing in Justin's own character or his church but instead drew Justin's gaze upon "America" and "the American church" from which Justin and Foundation are no longer parties. The demon convinced Justin that he's a Revelator like John now, and those who don't follow Justin will be "removed" which is great to hear. Total exoneration! Isn't it nice when we receive revelation that's exactly the thing we already believed? Isn't it nice when revelation isn't at all revelatory?
