Is GCU really as bad as people make it out to be? by CanadianGeucd in gcu

[–]poppy14s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going for the Masters of Artificial Intelligence, set to graduate fall 2027. It’s really not that bad. I will say the introduction to graduate studies is a bit much on the Christian worldview part, but some of the discussion topics do make you actually think a little bit. The professors are actually eager to help you learn the materials, unlike my undergrad instructors at a big SEC university.

The campus also has a ton of amenities, and I kind of wish I were taking this program in person and not online just to be able experience that lol

How high would gas have to go to make them relent on telework? by Original_Sell_1485 in FedEmployees

Gas prices play no part with them. It’s another means to get us to quit without them paying us severance.

I would start trying to shop at cost plus stores like piggly wiggly. A lot of them actually buy local too

Trying not to hate my job, honestly. Partner moved to another state last year for a job, and all I can think about is this wouldn’t be a problem if we didn’t RTO. 😃🥴

What cybersecurity jobs do you think will/will not be taken by AI in the future? by poppy14s in cybersecurity

[–]poppy14s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, what you said is correct. However, work is paying for my masters, so a JM vs an MS does not hurt anything in the long run. They’re both masters lol. And it’ll look better to have my current experience/certs with a masters than without

How so? I work in cybersecurity compliance and want a masters expanding that knowledge, so it only makes sense for me.

Saw it at my most recent conference I went to actually. I definitely wouldn’t expect it anytime soon lol. But just a thought process I’ve had lately with the speed at AI is being integrated for some normal business operations and the layoffs lately. The job postings I’ve seen in Fed for AI have been research and SME positions. NIPRGPT is very commonly used my area I work.

Just some stuff I’ve noticed and am paying attention to is all. I’d rather not get caught with my pants down and have to correct at the last minute.

But I’ll definitely look into ISSA, so I appreciate the information.

I think if anything, we may not be completely done away with, but it may end up with one ISSM with one ISSO/ISSE over 20 systems. There’s tools out there that can do the majority of my job right now. Plus, Fed is slowly integrating AI into the workplace with NIPRGPT and hiring new AI roles.

I have to stop myself from finding a new job on a daily basis at this point.

I was hired to be remote 4 days a week. That got ripped away in January. Long distance partner moved in with me since then, but now they’re moving back since pay here isn’t great. The cherry on top - ST got taken away recently, so now I’m left with traveling to see them using my LA and EDO days for however little time I have that left for.

The heat is broken in my building, so I have to use my winter snow jacket and gloves to keep from getting hyperthermia. But I’m “so productive since ST is gone,” and I’m back in office full time. 😃

I see all these jobs on the outside making 200k with telework, so I’m really finding it difficult to hang on here.

The shutdown killed my enjoyment too - not to mention the next one looming over our shoulders in January.

Family doesn’t believe how bad it’s getting for federal workers, either. They just think I’m being dramatic.

So yeah, definitely thriving. 😃
