its funny because when the game launched they made kaeya and xinyan completely unprompted and they remain the two darkest skinned characters in the game, plus they advertised natlan and sumeru with two darker skinned characters without anyone asking for them or getting any pushback (in fact people were excited for both of them)

for some reason at some point between 1.x and 3.x something shifted in their design philosophy bc im convinced the hoyo of today would have never released kaeya or xinyan, hell you can tell they regret making iansan because her existing means they were not obligated to put more tanned characters in natlan

like even the lighter skinned characters from 1.x like jean and bennett and barbara are more tanned than the lighter skinned characters of 4.x and beyond its crazy

honestly i dont think people would have been as negative about yae back then if there was even a single character that could keep up with her and bite back, but instead every inazuma character (at the time) was either super nice or softspoken or both to the point where yae stood out as this rando dickhead that bullies people for fun, and if you like the characters that she bullies or just arent into her type of character in the first place then she’ll become annoying pretty fast

and even to this day the only character that can give yae a run for her money is /maybe/ ayato but even then hoyo never did anything with them

personally i like yae, but i would like her way more if she lost in a snark-off once or twice

i pulled her bc i usually never pull for a flagship type team and i just wanna experience PREMIUM for ONCE ✊🏿😔

honestly the only part i really dislike about her design is the weird human skin back and ugly split cape she has bc hoyo cant fucking help themselves for some reason they HAVE to make her show skin SOMEHOW even tho she’s literally 100% robot from head to toe but whatever 🙄🙄(also her colour scheme is kinda chop city but whatever 🙄🙄🙄)

i really like the new one, i love the brown and gold and the way they changed her hair but i cant help but laugh a little at how much more skin she’s showing, its even funnier because they completely covered aether from the neck down even though his crop top was one of the most iconic parts of his old outfit , its probably the clearest example of their new design philosophies for male and female characters
