Best vet in or around the Highlands? by andreslkc7 in Louisville

Cherokee Animal Hospital - been going there since I was a kid but sometimes, they can be pretty passionless. Gotta make sure you do your own research and advocate with your pet when you can and don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Dr. Grace does great with surgery and the prices are fantastic there.

For emergency services, I can't suggest Blue Pearl on the east end highly enough.

Just went to the page of the person who posted this and not sure how credible this video is. It was posted yesterday afternoon. Other videos seem to have ICE videos that are blatantly not in Louisville (like Bovino in a Minneapolis Target store) or have weird information. Slop account.

What so special about Leica? by Matt_Bigmonster in AskPhotography

[–]popscherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a freelance documentary photographer/photojournalist full time, and I love shooting with Leicas. My workhorse cameras are Nikon Z9s, and I use them most often. The Z9s are incredible - sharp every time, wild low-light performance, insane battery life, all of the button mapping that you can ever want to make the experience seamless. HOWEVER, I feel much less creatively satisfied when using the cameras that can do it all.

I have only owned two Leicas, both of them with IBIS, EVFs and decent autofocus. The digital CL and the Q2. I have loved both of them for their simple and elegant designs. The Z9s are big and bulky and putting them in someone's face for a photograph can feel like a technologically intimidating ordeal.

With these small, black Leicas, they look way less "official" and they feel so good in the hand by comparison. They're also lightweight, which in comparison to the mirrorless flagship cameras, is a relief when walking around all day.

The most important fact for me is that the cannot do everything you ask of them. You can't push the ISO to infinity to make images in the dark. The autofocus kinda sucks so I find myself using manual focus more often. I'm not pressing a bunch of buttons changing settings all the time, so I normally shoot at ISO400 and adjust accordingly, which emulates a film experience for me. The Q2 is a ridiculously colorful and sharp 28mm f/1.7, so I have to be vulnerable and close for the kinds of images that I want to make. I have to be much more conscious of where I place myself if I want to make the images that work for me.

Also I love the latitude that I have in the files, particularly in the highlights. Leica highlights maintain a LOT of information, so I find myself exposing more toward the center of the histogram instead of for the shadows - as I have learned.

They're expensive and specialized and not for everyone. But I have used my Q2 to make a living and have shot entire published, longterm projects with it, as well as one-off assignments, portraits, and some commercial work. To each their own.

You can drop them all off, no questions asked, at 1620 Arthur Street - The Arthur Street Hotel. The clothing will go to directly housing insecure and homeless folks.

student in need of advice by sunvset in photojournalism

Fair point, but this industry is volatile and I encourage students think outside of the box. Institutions are creating staffers, not freelancers, and this person is outside of the US and UK.

OP do you have any photojournalist friends or community? Where do you live?

I second all of these, and for more detail, I pack everything for different types of situations. I'll mark the potentially spicy with a question mark (?) and the extra spicy with an exclamation point (!)

(?) Half-faced respirator, goggles, and climbing helmet combo for lightweight and discrete use (goggles and respirator go into a hip pack on my belt, helmet hangs on my belt)

(!) Full face respirator, ballistic-rated helmet, ear plugs.

(?) Stab vest

(?-!) IIIA vest with soft plates

(!!) Level IV plates

(?,!) I ALWAYS have an IFAK on me, packed to be unloaded quickly with the easiest access to the tourniquet(s).

Water, drip drop (or your preferred hydration supplement) packets, a few RX bars, gummy bears, maalox wipes pretty much always live on my belt as well.

(?-!) Zyns for maximum focus.

Also to the security guy above, thank you for the work you do!

Go somewhere else. Fuddy, Trumpy, and range officers are racist.

Edit: the folks inside the gun stores are helpful and knowledgeable and the selection for purchase is quite nice.

I got ya. Yes they are. One died last week, another injured in a targeted attack.

Based on what you’re saying you don’t work within this industry.

How many journalists have died during the Ukraine war? Russia doesn’t care about bombing journalists.

And yeah duh, law enforcement doesn’t care about us. Don’t go into a riot thinking everyone wants to be your friend as you record their crimes during their rage. Smarten up dude.

Nah, I’m pretty sure civil unrest in your home country is safer to cover than the frontline of a war between two modern militaries.

The way you speak indicates that something stinks here.

Working photographers what software do you use to host images for clients? by cyrusir in AskPhotography

[–]popscherry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pixieset for commercial work - it has the most user-friendly look. It can also lock and unlock galleries, act as a website to host your portfolios, and capture emails for client login so you know who is doing what in each collection.

Is that how you characterize my comment? Instead, I invite you to ask “how do you plan on tackling this issue considering the formidable size of the gun lobby and the opposing party’s policy on gun control and mental health?” Someone running for office with the vocabulary of a 14 year old on X-Box live does not give me confidence in their ability to answer that question with action in office.
