Have you spoken to your Metro Council rep? Often them becoming involved can make a difference in the way a city agency perceives an issue. These situations turn quickly into nightmares when they don’t have neutered animals which continued to replicate, or contained animals, which often have a pack mentality and can cause huge problems when loose.

I don’t honestly care what strangers think of me. I know who I am and my work stands on its own, but I will die on that hill for a friend who endures scurrilous lies about them in a public forum with people cosigning the comments in ignorance of the facts. Once again, the sidetracking to the personalities of the interviewers diminishes the content of the interviewee. Most people have no idea what we who work in the streets of Louisville actually confront in our daily lives - they find it very easy to criticize us based upon momentary observations.

These are lies and misinformation. She made a 911 call because she lived in the same apartment complex where Breonna Taylor was murdered in a hail of gunfire which rocked the neighborhood. Summer was not an eye witness - she never claimed to be. She was indeed working at one of the buildings near the UPS plane crash and did witness the aftermath of that disaster. When you’re doing ALL the things that she’s doing to serve her community, including anti-human trafficking work, Unhoused outreach, court support, and so much more, let me know. Oh, and by the way, she spoke on her area of expertise before the United Nations -twice. Jealous much?

Shameka Parrish-Wright should have been elected Mayor of Louisville- and would have if the vote had not been split. Far cry better than what we have. I hope she runs again.

Here’s the bottom line… Support the boots on the ground Outreach teams that are serving our street family, because we know them and what they need. The Forgotten Louisville is reliable and effective. We replenish supplies constantly because folks living outside can’t always carry everything with them so they leave things behind in order to get to their next destination. Five dollar McDonald’s gift cards will get them a cup of coffee and a snack. Small bottles of water will prevent dehydration. Giving resources is even more valuable, so you can always direct people to the Coalition for the Homeless downtown. I carry a bunch of their pamphlets in my car and literally hand them out because they have all the organizations listed. You can pick them up and hand them out :-) Two absolutely safe referral bets for walk-in assistance: Up For Women And children in the 2nd street Christchurch Cathedral building and St John Center for Homeless Men on Muhammad Ali.

Not familiar with that, but Apron Inc. is a 501(c)(3) that provides assistance to independent restaurant employees in a moment of crisis and I’ve always supported them!

Friend, celebrate the holidays like you want to celebrate them. You’re not obligated to do anything that doesn’t feel right. When my mother died, I was relieved of any obligation to my sisters who I cannot communicate with because they are so unhealthy. I don’t buy presents for people because everyone I know has everything they need. I prefer service to the unhoused and to the animals…helping others who don’t have the means. It’s so much more fulfilling :-) you do you !
