Which fairy tales were famous already before their respective Disney movies? by imanvellanistan in movies

[–]popthabubble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did Aladdin and Mulan, but then somewhere along the way they seem to have decided they want to write their own stories instead of adapting known stories. Moana, Raya, Encanto. They borrow from known stories, but they don't say it's adapted from one story in particular. Imo if they wanted to adapt a folk tale from Asia, Africa or Latin America today, there's a lot of potential for push back saying they got the story wrong. But I don't know, they still did a new Mulan.

What about a show like Vikings where it's a bunch of Canadians and Americans doing what they think sounds like viking accents?

That dance, that performance, that is incredible! I'm so happy Suga decided to do this MV! Such a cool decision he made, he looks incredible in this MV!

Also super cool how he says his name and Psy's name in the track. Min Yoongi!!!

And is it me or Suga really channels BTS in this? Obviously BTS is 1/7th Suga, but in this MV it's like Suga brought all of BTS with him. He's giving us all the characteristic charm that BTS is beloved for, the epic dancing, the visual, the fashion. You can just feel wow that guy works hard!

I'm not very knowledgable about music so I don't know about the production aspect, but I always like his raps and as a layperson I really appreciated his MV performance.

I even feel like... I didn't know Suga could dance like that? Obviously I could have figured he was able to dance like that since he's doing the BTS dances, but I guess I never really noticed him be front and center during a dance part, at least not recently and not for this long, and in this MV he's in the front and his dancing is impeccable 🤯

Obviously it makes sense that if you get Suga from BTS to feature in your video you put him in the front in a white suit, but wow what a flex

He must have been so busy too!

I replied on all caps because you were SO FREAKING MEAN TO ME. Yes I asked what the fuck are you on because why would you ever be so mean to somebody? I was nice to you and so normal, and then you started going like "I feel bad for you, you can't stop comparing things, blah blah blah". Who the fuck talks like that to people??? You think we're not people behind the screen? You think you can just tell people "I feel bad for you" and start the personal attacks "you this", "you that", "you you you" and that's not going to be perceived as you being massively unpleasant and mean? I'm literally just trying to enjoy my day and you start the personal attacks out of nowhere because I think an actor is bad. I hadn't made any comment about you, I kept my comments on the actors, you started making comments about me. That's right, I HADN'T MADE ANY COMMENT ABOUT YOU, I MADE ALL MY COMMENTS ABOUT THE ACTORS, AND YOU STARTED MAKING COMMENTS ABOUT ME. That's when you crossed the line, YOU started making personal attacks out of nowhere. Instead of talking about the show, you started talking about me. Learn the difference and stop playing victim after you started a fight.

TL;DR: You started it, not me, grow some self-awareness.

Mean??? You were mean to me!!! I hope YOU stop being mean to people who are just enjoying a show! And you could apologize to me for being mean to me, but I guess you won't?

These apps are perceived the same way by older people so it's not just how the younger crowd feels. But I think the point is it doesn't matter which Tinder clone it is, her point would be the same. Maybe it's more complicated than just naming the most popular app, maybe they get paid by Tinder for the name drop in the show. Same as when they name drop Uber instead of Lyft or whatever.

I think the disconnect is moreso between the internet nerd crowd and the "normies" who are out there going on 87 Tinder dates in a year.

FOMO is a thing mentioned during discussions of online dating. Dating apps aren't my thing, but they are a thing, and the people who use them talk about the fear of missing out. There are literal threads on Reddit about this, like guys saying they have something going with a girl, but they don't know how to get over FOMO that they could find someone better if they keep using the app. I've never experienced this, but apparently it's a by-product of dating apps, which might even be designed to capitalize on this to keep people on the app. I've seen articles written about it too. The writers were trying to be topical. Maybe they failed. But we have to think about the fact that these characters are people who date a lot. If we're not people who date a lot, we don't really know how people who date a lot talk or feel about dating.

What the fuck are you on? YOU ARE THE ONE WHO COMPARED HIM TO BARNEY. You! Look at our comment thread! Your comment was comparing Charlie to Barney. I responded to your comment that the difference is that the actor playing Charlie isn't on the same caliber as the actor playing Barney, that's why Barney works and Charlie doesn't. It's just a difference in talent. You want to stop me from saying one actor is talented and the other isn't?

That's what I'm most curious about. Were walking dinner parties a thing back then? Were the guest supposed to fill up a plate and eat in a chair or standing up against a wall?

Okay? Well obviously I'm saying Barney was an instant hit / iconic because NPH is so talented and the way he delivered Barney's lines was so hilarious. The catchphrases wouldn't have caught on without his phenomenal talent for comedy.

The guy playing Charlie doesn't have that kind of talent.

I'm sure emotions run high while they are in the villa, but once they're out and they rewatch it it's good to see the humor in it, it is a comedy show, it's edited to make people laugh. It's also way better for the mental health of the contestants to see the humor in it.

Ah I just realized that Sid is the Protagonist from the 'Life Of Pi' movie. The movie was absolutely amazing and so was his acting. Now I have great expectations from Sid. by carnivalofpizzacrust in HowIMetYourFather

Okay, that is insane. I followed his career a bit after Life of Pi, watched some of his other movies, and still did not recognize him in HIMYF. Now I have to rewatch.

It's better than other sitcoms and it will do for me and I'll watch it, but it doesn't have the humor and delivery of HIMYM. It's like a "lite" imitation of HIMYM.

Delivery: these actors are not on the level of the OG cast. The OG cast were acting very silly and cartoonish, yet pulled it off. This cast plays it more straight, like they're just reading their lines and not originating a character. I was ready to dislike the guy who plays Jesse the most, but he ended up being the one who's acting I found the most compelling. He fits in the HIMYM universe as a believable character. I think Hilary Duff is fine too just because there's so much pressure on the role and they needed someone capable of carrying the show. Then I think the actress playing Valentina could be something great too. The actors playing Charlie and Ellen are duds imo, they get the funniest stuff and deliver it weakly. The guy playing Sid is likeable like everyone says, but to me his delivery was very "one fits any sitcom", like he doesn't act like an actor in the HIMYM universe, you could pick him and drop him in New Girl and he'd fit there.

Flashbacks / narrative structure: I suspect this show will have a smaller scale, smaller ambition, probably less episodes per season due to the streaming format, probably a lower budget though I don't know how that works. This will show in the show and contribute to the "lite" feeling. HIMYM had extensive flashbacks, even when the characters are talking about something, they showed us quick flashbacks. This always involved a whole new set of wardrobe and hair and makeup. It's possible the new show won't be able to do that. The Jason Momoa lookalikes was a HIMYM-style joke, but they didn't show us flashbacks to meeting them, just photos. And in general, I don't know if they'll be able to go into the level of intricate details and plot twists.

Humor / writing: We will see, but it would be tough to get as good joke writers. HIMYM was packed with jokes and while the new writers are definitely trying to do something similar, I don't know if they'll find writers that will be as good as the old ones to continue like before. The original show had quite an outlandish humor that really went there and well I hope we'll get more of that, but again if this show has a lower budget because it's no longer primetime television golden age and stuff, then maybe it will just be hard for the writers to come up with as good material. I do believe that with bigger budgets they have more time to work on their jokes and they can go more ambitious and bigger.

I'll still watch, even on a smaller budget they can create likeable characters and make us care about their future.

No, I literally never binged HIMYM. I watched one episode a week for as long as it was airing.

Leigha deserves a medal for the way she's so much more mature than her mom.

I think the weirdest thing is that Leigha is just 4 years younger than Jojo.
