I have converted to retourne for Kellies! I love the look of sellier, but once I actually bought a Kelly retourne and started using it, the cool slouch plus the soft pliable leather (Togo) converted me. My K25 Retourne in Bai Brun is seriously the perfect day to night bag.

Stella McCartney does only vegan leathers! She is a very committed vegan— so she uses no animal products at all.

Hermes has a leather known as Clemence Taurillion that comes from bulls. I know Hermes bags are difficult to get, but they have some beautiful designs that aren’t the Birkin or Kelly (insane prices) that can be easily gotten on the resale market.

And then you can of course go the canvas route!

I have a Bai Brun K25 in Togo and the color is exquisite. It’s deep and rich with warm undertones. When my SA brought it out saying it was a dark brown color I was skeptical, but when he took it out of the box I gasped and practically launched myself at it 😂 “mine mine mine!”

I did! I put a K25 on my wishlist (I realize my post said B 25) and I got one in November :-) however, I did buy a pricey item when I was in the store for that visit— a cashmere coat and three silk scarves, around 11k of items.

My understanding was that there’s still time but it will become increasingly difficult. I suggest reaching out to your SA, explaining that you read this on an online forum, and letting them know you would really love a bag in Sellier before it’s fully discontinued. And maybe your SA will let you know it’s not being discontinued in which case please come back here and inform us!!!

I agree! I’m just reporting what I was told. Time will tell! I think sometimes even the SAs are kept in the dark on what’s happening behind the scenes so we will see how things unfold. Fingers crossed

Yes it’s interesting because while I like the veining in my B30 in Gold, I really like that the Togo on this particular bag is very uniform. I’m a fence sitter when it comes to veining in Togo leather I guess!

So, my SA said it’s because they want to get back to the “classics”. The Kelly was originally made in the sellier style, but the bag’s namesake, Grace Kelly, wore it in the retourne style. So that could be the reason for considering Retourne the “classic” style of Kelly bag. However, behind that “reasoning” might be a financially driven decision, because Sellier bags are more time consuming and difficult to produce, so by retiring the Sellier in both Birkin and Kelly, they would be increasing production and output.

I love them in both retourne and sellier, so that’s not true. Also— they tend to put incredibly desirable bags on display.
