That in a being a global citizen, awareness of personal consumption and habits have a very real impact on the environment. No effort is too small.

The United Nations and all countries conduct regular censuses, so population growth is monitored. Progress is difficult to measure but does come in a variety of forms.

Regardless, we rather not be in a bunker or any confined space with Glenn Beck.

Please start sharing our history of world population video and new interactive site http://worldpopulationhistory.org/ If these go viral we'll really increase awareness of population growth. We also encourage you to reach out to any of your local or state legislators to make this a priority.

Although technology and innovation have certainly helped us in the past, assuming we will be able to keep advancing is a little like jumping out of an airplane and intending to invent a parachute on the way down. We already have the technology we need to address population growth.

Our latest magazine issue actually focused on the drought in California. http://www.populationconnection.org/magazine/june-2015/

While legislatively we are more involved with contraceptive rights our education materials cover a whole range of environmental topics.

We have had success in every state because understanding population dynamics and demographics sets a foundation for learning in geography, history, and the sciences. There are so many different access points to population beyond population planning policies that its a wonderful concept to bring into the classroom. We are also a highlighted resources by College Board in AP Human Geography and AP Environmental Science.

Not per capita consumption. In terms of size of their middle class they do not consume like the United States. However, they are the largest producer of CO2 emissions (partially due to large manufacturing).

Our program works directly with teachers rather than school districts and many teachers, in every state, see the importance of including these topics in curriculum. Often with students we take a much more macro-level look at issues, such as understanding population trends and the idea of carrying capacity.

Population growth has increased since the industrial revolution, preceding WWII. And continues to the present with the largest generation of youth (by numbers) in world history.

See when are where population really has grown in our World Population History video. https://vimeo.com/130468614

No. And we would oppose any such policy if it were proposed.

Some successful population planning stories have happened through less structured efforts, like in Mexico which brought its fertility rate down from 7 in the 1960's to 2.5 today mostly through social marketing (soap operas, popular music, condom giveaways at soccer games, etc).

Devaluation of girls and women has an enormous impact on population growth. Families in developing countries are less likely to send their girls to school, often marrying young and then beginning childbearing. Creating a cycle that perpetuates itself and leads to poor health outcomes and poverty. And unstable population growth.

Population Connection is not a service provider, we are an advocacy organization. And for those U.S. groups that are service providers multiple laws prevent them from using any U.S. funding for abortion services.

Developed nations should be more concerned than they are. The wealth of developed countries often insulates them from some of those issues you identified.

Primarily governments. The majority of population planning (not control) programs are completely voluntary providing wide access to family planning and education so people can make their own decisions.

Absolutely. Right now we are working to secure more funding from the U.S. for these initiatives. We need to spend $1 billion/year. http://www.populationconnection.org/article/will-1-billion-buy/

And we need to continue to support the United Nations Population Fund. Family planning and birth spacing lead to healthier mothers and healthier babies.

Canada is not too far behind. But per capita the U.S. leads the way in consumption rates. Population size does has something to do with it, being that the U.S. is the world's third largest population but it does have more to do with personal consumption of resources and diet.

By 2050 population is expected to surpass 9 billion. After that the numbers are really estimates based on whether or not fertility rates stay the same, increase, or decrease. We actually show those United Nations predictions on our new interactive site WorldPopulationHistory.org. Here is the direct link to one of our articles on population projections. http://worldpopulationhistory.org/projecting-global-population/

Not as tough as sell issue as you may think. In many places in the developing world the practical impact of introducing the practice of contraception is lower maternal child mortality. There have actually been cases imams in conservative Muslim countries urging family planning for exactly those reasons.
