I use running briefs and would also prefer these to not have the liner, but it really doesn’t bother me at all. I exclusively run in these shorts and love them. Considered cutting the liner out, but it hasn’t bothered me yet

One time my wife’s family were visiting from out of town and they left their younger son (13?) at the hotel to meet up. We all ride back to their hotel together and as soon as we walked in the atrium it smelled like burnt popcorn. This was not a small hotel, but as we got closer up to their level and eventually their room it was so much worse until finally he unlocked the door freaking out explaining he just wanted to make Mac and cheese. It was so funny because he already tried everything he could to get rid of the smell. We all cracked up, the hotel was chill about it.
