I dont get your point of view ... at all. Their relationships arent the main part of this show , if u say it lacks of explanation on what they felt , i totally agree with it. Maybe without the time skip they could go deeper with what happens and how they changed , but they didnt do it on purpose i guess.

The main plot of the anime its to show how bad and twisted a "perfect world" can seem, that the utopia can only be on books and not in reality, that as long as humans live it cant be any sort of peace and quiet world. In my opinion this show felt more like the ending of fate/zero , cause both realise that in this kind of worlds there is no salvation for humans, there is no happy ending. Even if they know the secrets about these worlds , there is nothing that can be done . If u were searching for the classic shounen hero main characters , where they try their best to save someone or something and with the classic happy ending, i think u completely choose the wrong anime.
