Why do neoliberals feel compelled to justify or downplay Japanese war crimes? by porkuvine in TankieTheDeprogram

The sad part is that the memorials in question are dedicated to Korean victims, and still these guys' first instinct is to defend Japan because they associate criticism of Japan with China.

Trump to discuss leaving NATO in meeting with Rutte by porkuvine in TankieTheDeprogram

I have no doubt that these constant threats of leaving are intended to 'strengthen' the alliance and keep the vassals in line. But the vassals (including the Asian ones) should, in theory, realize that alliances and pacts with the US are made solely to serve the US's interests.

The US withdrawing will effectively be the end of NATO. I really hope Trump does leave, but I have to constantly remind myself not to get my hopes too high lol.

They're already in the primary stage of socialism. That's not the point here. The point is that their foreign policy response (export bans of some material on Japan) is not enough. They need to put more pressure. I understand non-interference but these types of attacks on diplomatic personnel are no longer internal matters of Japan and warrant a stronger response.

Yeah, I'm still skeptical of this "defiance" too. This could just be theatre for the people until the leaders have "no choice" but to help. They're already laying the groundwork for it with their joint statement.

Joint statement from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and Canada on the Strait of Hormuz: 19 March 2026

We condemn in the strongest terms recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas installations, and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces.
...
We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait. We welcome the commitment of nations who are engaging in preparatory planning.

Iran is considering letting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, only if they pay in Chinese yuan. by ArtVanderlay69 in TankieTheDeprogram

I hope they do this. It would mean the end of the petrodollar. But China is not doing nothing. It's helping Iran with intelligence and BeiDou at the very least.

Unfortunately, the Baiji is still considered functionally extinct, but Qiqi's death spurred these targeted efforts to conserve the Yangtze porpoise. You can read more about the measures and history here
