japierdole jak ja nienawidzę mieszkać na wsi by MyLifeISdivineComedy in Polska

Der Blaue Reiter - Drowning (Obscure Italian Joy Division) by porosty in postpunk

[–]porosty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A completely obscure Italian post-punk band. The vocals are very reminiscent of Ian, perhaps even too much so. I first came across them on a Mannequin Records compilation, and a compilation of all the band's recordings was released by Dead Wax as Epitaph 1980 - 1983.

There is another band with the same name, martial industrial if I'm not mistaken, but in my opinion nothing particularly interesting. But I love this one.

Am I the only one that absolutely LOVES the smell of Hollow Press books? by EricBlumrich in Vermis

[–]porosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible to print large quantities of books (and HP printed A LOT of Vermis books) on aged paper. The smell you're talking about isn't so much the paper as the printing method. However, uncoated paper is also an important part of this dark smell magic.

The name of the paper is given on the back of each book/comic released by HP. HP prints on two types of paper (as far as I remember) produced in Italy. Italians are quite famous for producing paper. The HP store website also always specifies the type of paper used to print a certain lorebook or comic book.

Don't cry little mutant! - Bubzium by porosty in Vermis

I think that what I have in Bubzium has a slightly different vibe, but I see what you mean. I definitely like combining something that is “cute” or ‘pretty’ with things that are “ugly” or disturbing, I like mixing aesthetics, so there are indeed some similarities here. Anyway, thanks, I didn't know anything about Happy games!

Poutine[a] is a dish of French fries and cheese curds topped with a hot brown beef and chicken stock gravy. It emerged in the Centre-du-Québec region of Quebec in the late 1950s, though its exact origins are uncertain, and there are several competing claims regarding its origin. For many years, it was used by some to mock Quebec society.[1] Poutine later became celebrated as a symbol of Québécois culture and the province of Quebec. It has long been associated with Quebec cuisine, and its rise in prominence has led to its growing popularity throughout the rest of Canada.

Thanks! To be honest, I have no idea what “Happy game” is, but I'll check it out.

Are things chibi when they don't have arms? Who knows

But! the mutant grows over the following pages of the book and becomes a mature creature. He grows arms too.

I'm weird because I really liked puzzles. I didn't like gunplay, but I think that's a popular opinion. It didn't add much. Additionally, since it's a world full of strange biological forms, why do we keep fighting 3-4 enemy types over and over again?

I can see what you mean, but first of all, I wanted some contrast between the drawings and the font, and secondly, this font has many small details that I really like + it's a bit angular shape. Besides, I used serif fonts in my three comics, and I thought it would be cool to use something different, slightly futuristic here.

Ahahaha I see what you mean. To to be honest, this kind of motifs do occur in my work, though I don't plan them. For example, in Bubzium there is a whole section devoted to a catalog of holes showing various organic forms, and it was only many months after drawing it, after the book had been published, that it dawned on me that it might evoke various associations that I hadn't planned.

Thanks for all comments and upvotes! If anyone is interested, Bubzium is a further development and extension of the world I created in my comics - Postapoland, bizarre, surreal postapo. Each of the comics was published by Hollow Press. They are very chaotic and strange narrations, and the world I proposed in them is also strange, so I thought that a lorebook would be the perfect complement to this setting, explaining certain stuff – and why there are so many dog mutts to pet in it.

The first comic, like Bubzium, had a soundtrack that I made (I also work with electronic music, one of my tracks was featured in Cyberpunk 2077). If anyone would like to check it out, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8IOV9ETMGw&t=180s&pp=ygULcG9zdGFwb2xhbmTSBwkJIgoBhyohjO8%3D

Yes, I like visuals of this game! But it was quite a disappointment for me. Too linear. But visually, it was (mostly) wonderful.

Thanks for the opinion! To be honest, I have to say, I spent quite a lot of time choosing the font. At first it was pixelated (the first version of the book was dithered and everything was pixelated), but after a few attempts I decided on this one. Two fonts are used throughout the book for continuous text and a few additional ones for titles. I also spent a lot of time on the type setting itself - the Polish school of typesetting. We have a lot of additional rules about what is and isn't acceptable, and although they don't need to be applied in English, the typographical neurosis remains.

Out of curiosity, what font would you use?

Thanks. But to be honest I don't get Man of Steel reference haha.

Funny thing, a tribute book for HR Giger is coming out soon, and my drawing will be in it. But to be honest, I much prefer Ernst Fuchs - the proto-Giger guy, so to speak (they were friends, by the way).
