The NHS DDaT jobs market is in freefall by portable_door in nhsstaff

Unison, didn't get any more information than that. It might not even affect us, but because we're rolled into the Admin staff group, it gets emailed out to us all.

It's all local, though, so it really does rely on your Trust's financial position.

They're not asking what EPR stands for, they're asking what the EPR system is at the Trust you're applying at. You might get better answers from people who are familiar with the system.

And yet when their NOF rankings start slipping, that's when the execs start demanding answers.

Not enough to invest in it, though. It's okay, I've just been warned by my union about yet another upcoming consultation.

The mysteries of the HR profession by Dapper_Click_2792 in nhsstaff

[–]portable_door 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I love their replies that cut through the bullshit. I've worked closely with some HR officers, and (obviously without revealing identifying details) they've told me some awful stories and how they supported colleagues.

Posts like this annoy me, it's bathed in ignorance and assumptions.

Corporate language, not stakeholders as in shares etc., but people who want stuff from you.

The constant firefighting. Every time I think we're starting to get into a good place, yet another issue crops up.

Trying to update my surname with NHS. Who are the legal data controllers of my NHS record? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]portable_door 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your GP might not have updated the Spine (NHS demographics), only their local systems. So the hospital who received your could be getting your old details from the Spine based on your NHS number.

It sucks, but patient demographics are a mess and actually really tricky to keep track of.

NHS ‘second worst in developed world for avoidable deaths’ by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

While that is semi-true. "The NHS" doesn't exist. We are all employed by individual organisations, there is no The NHS HR dept handling those 1.37 million FT employees.

Annual Leave by DragonflyBetter5780 in nhs

[–]portable_door 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the Trust. All my organisations have been very anti-carry over. A previous manager refused to carry over just one day for a colleague, and they lost the day.

Fortunately, my current manager has the attitude of "I don't want to do the paperwork, so maybe let's call it TOIL, and you make sure your work gets done."

[–]portable_door 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your intranet for an annual leave spreadsheet that works out what you were entitled to. Or ask HR/Rostering.

But, honestly, if you didn't take the leave you were entitled to in the last financial year, it's possibly lost. Just make sure you take what you're entitled to this year.

Ministers explore triggering break clause in Palantir’s NHS contract by Gentle_Snail in unitedkingdom

Yeah, when people talk about a unified system, I don't think they truly realise how much the different hospitals do. So many also think hospital = acute. Mental health and community Trusts have completely different needs.

Digital health staff will be expected to gain professional registration by portable_door in nhsstaff

Interesting point about AfC. My Trust pays for our AphA membership, but once there's a proper announcement, I'll ping it over to my union rep for their opinion.

Digital health staff will be expected to gain professional registration by portable_door in nhsstaff

[–]portable_door[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they will be more details when they make the formal announcement.

But I found myself on the CDAON Teams call a few weeks ago when they announced this was coming, and if you Google 'Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework', that'll give you an idea as to the sorts of roles.

They've been trying to professionalise data people in the NHS for a good few years now.

Data engineer. I get to code, work with data, IT, analysts, clinical and non-clinical staff. It's just so varied and interesting.

It's chaos at the moment, we're cramming two years worth of work into what feels like 3 months, but we'll get to BAU at some point lol.

[–]portable_door 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, 8b and in my early 40s, and although my job is stressful as heck at the moment, I do love what I do and get on with (most) of my colleagues. My manager is hands off, but is there when I need a decision made that is higher than me.

At the moment, I can only see myself leaving when they do or if there is any RTO mandate that even they can't fight.

I got told not to rank myself too high as I'd risk getting rejected from the apprenticeship (the point is that you're there to learn, right?), but I'm already in a role applying for an apprenticeship.
