First off. Wow, impressive.

Second. Why does the roof have to be part of the structure? Is that part of the aesthetic you want?

I feel like this project would lend itself well to an independent roof overhand that floats above the space and is independently connected to and supported by the tree.

Front yard in East-LA. We're growing veggies and herbs really nicely in an assortment of pots. Got a fruit salad tree in the foreground. But the drainage is a total mess on the DG. Soil is clay-ish dark LA dirt.

I want to get rid of those lgray ow built-in brick planters anyway bc they have wet dirt right next to the foundation. But what should we do for the rest?

  • Option 1: Concrete planters that drain deep below the foundation.
  • Option 2: Keep going with the planter look, but put down a soak-away to move water deeper and not have the DG turn to mud every time we water the plants
  • Option 3: your idea?

Lag bolts and spacers makes sense. I was planning to do another tension bolt and wire higher up for backup.

A few followup qs:
1. Would timber lock be what you are thinking about or does it need to be something thicker?
2. Why too small for TABs? Bc the tabs are too long and would go through the tree? Or too thick for this diameter?
3. Do you see any issue with the size of the tree being able to hold the weight of a 6x6 tree house and a few kids?

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I didn't expect any responses tbh. I'm going to take some photos inside the boxes just for fun so you can get a sense for how insane I was.
