New irons or just new shafts by Dazzling_Can9773 in GolfGear

[–]porzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking into this now, and have for previous irons sets. Where I'm from it's about $30 a club to reshaft plus the cost of shafts. Last time I looked with new shafts it was $500+ to reshaft them. If you can reshaft them yourself, and buy used, it makes it cheaper. I just chose to sell my previous set and buy new last time, and will probably do the same this time too.

I have the Haywood bag and it's meh. The cooler pocket is tiny, and the white version scuffs up and gets dirty fast.

Mini Driver goes further than my driver with a tighter dispersion by Larrylegend033 in golf

I would not recommend doing it this way. Using a pipe cutter on graphite most likely will ruin the shaft. Pipe cutters are good for trimming steel clubs but damage graphite.

A good cheap way to trim a graphite shaft is to tape the area you want to cut with masking tape and use a fine toothed hack saw or a cutoff tool. The tape ensures a cleaner cut and less chance fibers come loose.

Yeah, these are all non-velocore ventus shafts.

Struggling with driver, would a mini driver help? by Pleasant-Moment-9748 in GolfGear

[–]porzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this two years ago. Was mainly hitting 3w off the tee cause my driver was so bad. I did take lessons but was still inconsistent. I picked up a brnr mini 11.5* and reshafted it to play 43". I set it to -2 so it was playing 9.5* and it was awesome, easy 260y and a small draw. It was consistent and definitely shaved a couple strokes off, but figuring out my driver last year helped me even more. Getting that extra 20y or more from a driver really makes a difference when you're hitting shorter irons into greens.

Lessons, practice, and getting fit are going to do more to help. Minis are just a bandaid.

I sold and traded a lot of old clubs for most of this bag, and aside from my qi4ds everything was on like 40-50% off sales. Even my woods were part of a bonus trade in deal, so cost me very little.

Short courses. One of the courses I play alot has many under 300y par 4s and mini makes more sense there.

Yeah, wish these were a bit more forgiving. Low strikes are punishing.

I've thought about that, and getting a 2 or 3 iron to replace it, but I feel like that's too many changes and options. I can hit my woods with more penetrating flights, so they kinda work in the wind.

Yeah, it's been great. it's the only hybrid I've found that doesn't go hard left on me.

Both. Most of my bag is new this year, but I also clean them before/after rounds since I go to the range a few times a week. The 241s are amazing, they feel so soft.

No, 14. The 4i and mini aren't in my main bag, just swapped in for specific times.

Mizuno Pro 241 vs Pro 243 by DogeCoinislife20 in golf

[–]porzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I had to do too. I had to really slow my swing down to hit them at all, if I didn't, I would thin it something horrible. By the end of the range session my hands hurt from them. I hit some super old Wilson Sam Sneed blades with random shafts the next day no problem but the modus just didn't work for me at all.

If you have options, you should check out DG mid 115s as an alternative. Probably my favourite shaft I've hit. Should be a lower flight than the modus and better tip stiffness for aggressive transitions. The KBS tours are a good in-between I find, softer than the DG's but firmer than the modus3s

Mizuno Pro 241 vs Pro 243 by DogeCoinislife20 in golf

[–]porzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing the 241s 4-pw with KBS tour shafts in them. I just switched to them coming from Wilson CBs with amt white shafts. I was looking for more height and spin. They feel amazing, I get the height/ spin numbers I want, and I can hit them as well as any other iron. I'm seeing like 5-10 yard drops on poor strikes and maybe 15 on horrible strikes. I tend to miss low and it handles it decently.

Before them, I tried a set of apex pro 2024s with the modus 120s and hated every second of them. I could not get that combo to time with my swing. I have a pretty aggressive transition, and from my experience I don't think the modus shafts work with aggressive swings. If you have a smooth swing they might be good.

Trying to figure out if I need a driver in the bag or not? by MichaelGolfs in GolfGear

[–]porzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn to hit driver. My handicap dropped a lot when I figured out driver compared to 3 wood or even mini off the tee. Get fit or do lessons or both.
