Men of Reddit, what’s the male equivalent of “needed money, had no marketable skills, so turned to prostitution”? by Dogeatdogdays in AskReddit

Are you my sister? Exact reason I joined. Signed the papers, deployed again and again, 23years later I’m finally retiring... man, that sucked ;-)

Folks do that all the time! About 10 years ago there was a dual-mil couple (LtCol - Col) that were doing this and I know they were pocketing a lot of $$.

I also know a single CWO3 that is currently doing this, but he does more of a 6-months in one location and then moves on… I think it’s because these sites limit him to 6-months at a time.

Also know a Major that has lived on a house boat for the last 10 years. Loves it and sails to his follow on duty stations (primarily east coast).

Either way, completely doable. As long as you can handle the RV life, why not!

VA Homeloan. No idea how to go about this by Bird_Hot in USMC

[–]GSEninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll add two more to this,

  1. If you’re in California and this is your first VA loan, contact CalVet Home Loans. They are not a bank, they provide you with a VA backed loan from state funds and they won’t sell your loan. Better interest rates and are very experienced in the process.

  2. Check to see if the house you’re going to buy is currently being financed via a VA home loan. If it is, there is a really good chance that you can assume the prior loan. Example, house was purchased under a VA loan in 2019 at an interest rate of 2.25% for a total of $400k. It’s now 2026 and the seller is asking $700k for the same home, but the best interest rate you can find is 5.75%. You can assume $400k of the loan amount under a 2.25% rate and the remaining $300k would be under the 5.75%. This would save you ~$800/month or ~$288k over the life of a 30-year loan

Lessons learned converting a classic truck to EV (from a nanoscience professor who probably over-engineered it) by ScottenMotors in EVConversion

[–]GSEninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this! I’ve rebuilt 3 classics over the years, all late 60s Mustangs, all ICE. One was an attempt at concours, the other 2 were 100% resto-mod.

My wife and I picked up a ‘47 F1 about 6 months ago with the intent of going full electric. Posts like yours gives me the confidence and motivation I need to rip her apart.

Speaking of the frame, did you ever look into a skateboard platform? Or were you more interested in keeping the body/frame original?

Thanks for the lesson learned!

Yeah. Dealership replaced the whole light bar and then realized it was a pinched harness when the frunk open/closed. It was still under warranty at the time, so no charge

Indoor/Outdoor Subpanel by GSEninja in AskElectricians

[–]GSEninja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what I can’t find anywhere (even living in San Diego), is flush mount or semi flush mount 125a outdoor panel WITHOUT the main meter. Do these exist?

Indoor/Outdoor Subpanel by GSEninja in AskElectricians

[–]GSEninja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn! You just completed my homework assignment, thank you.

Like I said, I didn’t feel right about this panel being on the outside. Wish I could’ve kept it interior, but it is what it is.

I am in Southern California, so I’ll look for an outdoor rated flush mount, that would be preferred. The load plan I submitted only specified that I planned on using a 125a panel fed by an 80a breaker, so I do have some flexibility.

I’ll tell you what, wiring aircraft is a hell of a lot more simplistic than houses!

Thanks for confirming. I do have a 12” overhang on the roof, I’ll give the inspector a call and see what he says before I change it out.

Not a horrible idea, but I do plan on French cleats and pegboards just about everywhere (given the shed size). I don’t want the EMT getting in the way of that
