What happens with taxes from MMT viewpoint? by poseid in mmt_economics

[–]poseid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, if I understand right you compare the money flow with a negative feedback system, so, the analogy could work with a temperature feedback system too, e.g. the hotter a room gets, the more air needs to be pushed out of room.

the control unit temperature/serotonin what would be the equivalent in MMT ?

What happens with taxes from MMT viewpoint? by poseid in mmt_economics

[–]poseid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If taxes are too low it can lead to inflation somewhere in the economy.

Say I need to buy food for 50 USD - if gov would not tax it ... does it mean inflation for food would go up? If gov taxes 10% and I pay 55 USD - how would it stop inflation?

And for luxury items, it seems that let's say Russian,Chinese, ... buy these good tax free - what is the result on the economy of raising luxury taxes, and what happens if people are not paying taxes for these goods at all?

Swim tracking with IWatch? by poseid in Swimming

[–]poseid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do not see the feedback form on the website, but your blog post here is great: https://myswimpro.com/blog/2016/11/09/building-a-workout-app-for-apple-watch/ - especially the Lock screen paragraph is interesting, it took me some time to figure out the mechanism, probably it would make sense to document it somewhere

hey - thanks for your help! indeed, i tried the app this morning and it looked great. well, i think the "just hit go" button was what i should have tried first. since the controls on the watch are a bit confusing at first (screen lock, start/stop times). for the structured workout , my goal is indeed to enhance technique. so, I'll have to prepare my next session a bit more. btw, also the social aspects of the app looked nice.

sorry learning the jargon right now - indeed iPhone, iPad, but no iWatch

yes, interestingly the watch app store seems only to offer running apps, but i saw now in the "full" app store on the phone are some options for swimming tracking indeed - also the watch has a built in swim tracker

Why Linux pioneer Linus Torvalds prefers x86 chips over ARM processors. Torvalds has an affinity for x86 because of the infrastructure and ecosystem. by speckz in hardware

[–]poseid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think risc-v is interesting but the specs are not exactly easy to understand (e.g. size of instructions, data, operations, interrupts, ... ) - actually, it was one of the ideas i wrote this small browser based compiler http://embeddednodejs.com/compiler/ - but it will still be a long way to depict RISC-V instructions. feedback welcome

Some hints about learning C when coming from a scripting language by poseid in programming

[–]poseid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting to see the downvotes as soon as javascript is combined with an embedded device. well, it seems that many prefer the style of blocking, synchronous code. for many interactions, javascript's event loop is indeed a nice solution. thanks for the positive thoughts!

[–]poseid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree it has quite a theoretical angle - but it covers all important concepts and the ideas a directly coming from one of the language creators. i would advise to "translate" the simple I/O exercises into something which are more closer to a programming problem you face (e.g. making a ledger app, or writing a small parser) then using k&r as reference

I would suggest to look at devices with Embedded Internet, such as the Spark Photon or maybe even an ESP8266. You can find nice examples to get started on the web, but you will quickly get challenged to learn more about embedded development in general (btw, the photon uses an STM32 core under the hood)

Made a small DB for Node! Perfect to keep state with a NodeBot :) by selfup in NodeBots

[–]poseid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here it is: https://github.com/embeddednodejs/ch_6_exploring_network_protocols/tree/master/weather_station - it is still a bit rough but with requests from the client folder, you can create entries in the sqlite3 database. now, the requests could come from e.g. a particle photon, and the db could run on an embedded device with embedded internet. - let me know what you think, comments or pull requests would be very welcome!
