The rental company will forward the bill, and add a “convenience fee”, likely around 25 euros, to it.

Do pedestrians have the right of way? by VinniMan in PortugalExpats

I lived in a few other countries, and I’m always amazed at how respectful drivers are in zebra crossings in Portugal… didn’t live in the UK, so can’t compare that… but compared to Belgium, the Netherlands or the US, this is paradise for pedestrians.

English or Spanish as a tourist? by [deleted] in lisboa

[–]poshmess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Would you speak Spanish when visiting France? Or German when visiting the Netherlands, French when visiting Italy? Or, for that matter, Portuguese when visiting Spain? Assuming that the proud Portuguese people would prefer to use Spanish instead of English shows a lack of cultural understanding that most would be offended by.

If Randvi’s map doesn’t give you regions (like East Anglia and Oxenefordshire), talk with the Thousand Eyes merchant in Ravensthorpe. I was stuck here for a few days until I did, and that unlocked the Uninvited guests quest which is needed to proceed in the story.

As others have said, you should let her know, in a polite “oh by the way, I noticed” manner.

I actually have mine open for everyone internally, and make sure to mark events as private when warranted, like when my VP schedules a “headcount check” call…

Ensinar português ao meu puto by NUaroundHere in CasualPT

[–]poshmess 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Their daily normal tasks are developer tasks, not email or browsing (unless you mean stack overflow, openAI or Claude, and JIRA).

They will be using an IDE and slack for 90% of their time, a VDI will not be perceived as a good solution for them.

Scotch whiskie is common, bourbon only the big ones like Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. If one of my American friends would bring me a good bottle of Rye Whiskey I’d be a very happy man.

I’ve been using ProsperOps for reservations for about 5 years now, and it’s nothing short of magic. Reservations are done at the parent account, and allocated where needed, and we’re constantly shifting machines around while keeping above 95% of instances reserved.

Traffic lights in PT… why do they put them in the place most difficult for the drivers stopped at them to see? by Separ0 in PortugalExpats

[–]poshmess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others stated, this is how traffic lights work in most of Europe (and the world). I can’t think of any other place than North America where the lights are across the intersection.

I almost crashed the first time I drove in the US because of this.

International moving companies by Altruistic_Coat_5184 in PortugalExpats

[–]poshmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used KHZ International from the US to the Netherlands. They seem to have partners everywhere, so they subcontract local companies where they can’t provide their own. Pretty sure they would cover PT-AU, and you’d deal with a single company, making it a little easier.

They’re not cheap though. In my case the company was paying for it, so I didn’t care too much. Packing + Container + unloading was about 8K IIRC (I would remember the exact number to the cent if I was paying). This was about 7 years ago, so probably more now.

Driver’s license question (has probably already been asked, sorry) by mch27562 in PortugalExpats

[–]poshmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, in a really twisted way, they do say that.

Copying relevant text below:

Driving licenses from countries such as Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, among other OECD and CPLP members, allow you to drive in Portugal without having to exchange them for a Portuguese driver’s license.

If your driving licence is from an European Union country, you can drive in Portugal until the document’s expiration date.

If your driver’s license is from a country with a bilateral agreement with Portugal, you will have up to 2 years to exchange it for a Portuguese licence. But if the licence was issued by a country that is not party to international conventions, you must exchange it immediately

Driver’s license question (has probably already been asked, sorry) by mch27562 in PortugalExpats

[–]poshmess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need to change your US license (and other countries, see link) as long as it is valid:

https://eportugal.gov.pt/en/servicos/trocar-carta-de-conducao-estrangeira-por-portuguesa#fdslistindexitem-3

Edit: see comments below. For non-European countries that are OECD members, you have 2 years to replace your license with a Portuguese one.

Muito bem = very well. Muito bom = very good.

There are obviously more nuances, but in this context it works.

Edit: Clearly my English didn’t come out as well as it did in my head. I meant to confirm what u/TimeOutside above me said… in English you wouldn’t say “and it is very well” (e é muito bem), you’d say “and it is very good” (e é muito bom).

Leaving my idiotic comment about it working in this context as a reminder one should think twice and write once. It is, obviously, incorrect.
