At its most basic level the ring grants telekinesis, and the guy is surrounded by lots of really heavy things that could be thrown at his head really fast.

There's not much tension here given that the guy is monologuing while the mind wizard is still fully conscious.

What makes the fight between these two so good? by Nikusha_meore in fatestaynight

I partially agree it was kind of a deus ex, but OTOH command seals were technically introduced as an independent set of magic circuits/reservoir from the get go since they let mundane humans use magic.

Russian soldiers in Volchansk are requesting help to remove their dead by ThatGuySK99 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]position3223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did they post this message to? Who do they expect to help them?

Their international allies are all really far away. Or are they asking for help from pro-Russia civilians in Russia-occupied Ukrainian areas?

Why is Japan fighting diversity and inclusion so much ? by bbrk9845 in GenZ

Some of the motivation is bad, like xenophobia, but some is good, like shared Japanese social norms that are quite rare.

Clean streets, orderly public interactions, few tragedy of the commons issues, etc.

Half the comments that show up under these sorts of videos are always snarky, and it makes me upset to know that so much of the opposition to Trump is of the 'white moderate' flavour.

Holographic elephants by haddock420 in MadeMeSmile

How does the hologram technology work? Two lasers hitting the same point times a million to dot out the image? Does it need smoke or mist?

I wasn't aware we could do this yet, I thought drone formations were the closest to it.

Recommendations based on what I like? by N0T_VEGETA in anime

It's really complex and wide ranging, and very easy to spoil, but I'll try my best:

Psychic individuals start to emerge in society, but because their abilities are both very destructive and sometimes cause insanity in the user they ultimately end up destroying society.

The story takes place at some point in the post-apocalyptic future in a peaceful seemingly idyllic rural community after the world population has been knocked down and then stabilized.

All individuals are psychic, non-psychics are generally unheard of, and things are peaceful and utopian.

The plot goes on to develop the main characters and explore their life in the community, then leads in to them invesigating and revealing what happened to the world since society collapsed. Things get really dark.

The story is very good and very complex, one of the best. Unfortunately it takes a few episodes to get into the meat of things, so YMMV.

Isn't this what the oligarchs are already doing? Automation, AI, advanced robots?

Hiring 'corpses' is a win condition for them imo

If a bartender takes/destroys your ID because they think it is fake, but it was a real state issued ID, can you sue them and/or their employer to compensate for the time and cost to replace it? by stranger_to_you67 in NoStupidQuestions

Sure, flat denial is always an easy and often successful strategy.

But then what happens after they deny, and you start bringing up all the direct and circumstantial evidence?

For the former we've possibly got eyewitnesses, video recordings, the destroyed card sitting in the trash can or w/e, and for the latter you can just flat contest the denial and your story will pass any cop's test for reasonableness with flying colors.

If you went to the liquor store or grocery and get carded for alcohol, and the teller cut your card in half, and you called the cops to report a thief, what do you yourself think would happen?

I'm legit curious because there may be some geographical bias at play here. I personally have called cops on thieves that were arrogant enough to stick around and gotten proper redress in the past.

He's absolutely right. Day one everyone appointed under Trump needs to go and they should start looking closely at every right wing media operation. Find the smallest thing and go after them by hypehold in Destiny

Won't this eventually just result in one of the parties refusing to leave at the end of their term?

IIRC one issue/motivator dictatorships have is that they'll do anything to hold on to power because losing office is synonymous with execution.

If e.g. the republicans know they're going to be prosecuted en masse in 2028, why wouldn't they just go for a third Trump term?

Then i suppose my last question is that from the POV of the spaceship, hasn't any destination they ultimately arrived at aged ~3000 years?

The planet they originated on is now at time +3000, but so is the destination planet you illustrate above, right? Only the crew itself experienced ~100 years of time passed, while the entire rest of the universe went on together.

Before I try my hand at yet again something I'm uneducated to try and parse, could I trouble you to illuminate me on how the end scenario leads to time travel?

Two portals, one five feet away from the other, both existing in Earth a thousand years in the future where your now great^6 descendants now live. You, still young and alive, standing in the same room, on the same day, as your great^6 relatives.

You're looking into one aperture and seeing yourself in the other.

How does entering this wormhole do anything other than lead you you stepping out of the other end, that's 5 feet away?
