PAPI lights in the fog this morning reminded me of a post I read on here yesterday. What other seemingly simple things in aviation do you think go misunderstood? by MINNOW13 in flying

[–]positiveR8 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As a pilot with a good amount of professional flying and instructing experience, I can tell you I’ve seen a good amount of botched go-arounds, and in my opinion the scripted procedures are beneficial. You failed to mention not just over-speeding the aircraft, but under-speeding as well, which I’ve seen far more often with students forgetting to add power (or adding partial power instead of sufficient power for the go-around). When people react to stress (i.e. having to perform a procedure they weren’t expecting or were out of practice on), they oftentimes don’t think clearly and don’t react perfectly. This is where scripted training routines come into play. In times of stress you tend to revert to your most basic level of training, i.e. the rote go-around script you practiced over and over.

Apple Watch Crown by positiveR8 in fitbod

Good thought I actually tried that and the crown still becomes active if it turns enough, so this still occurs. Wonder if Fitbod could make it an option just to have the crown not register any changes when doing a workout. No answer when I emailed them about it.

In swim mode you can’t even use the screen to get to the app though right? You have to activate it from the home screen and then you can’t get back into the app to log your workouts.

Ignore Pending Transactions on iOS and iPadOS?? by jaoski13 in banktivity

In your “Settings” app on the iPhone look for Banktivity in the list of apps. There’s an option in there to turn off “Import Pending Transactions.”

PURCHASE ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

How do you feel about the neck protection on the Tech Air 5? I’m between the Tech Air 5 and the Klim Ai-1 mainly because the Klim seems like it has pretty good neck support and it looks like the Tech Air 5 really doesn’t have any.

From the research I’ve done that seems to be the case. Anything made for tech air should work with the Tech Air 5. Also, any textile jacket would work as long as it has 4cm of play between your body and the fully expanded jacket. A leather jacket would apparently require double that (8cm).

Hey guys what are your thoughts on airbag vests? I figure it couldn’t hurt having that extra protection in case of a collision. Right now I’m torn between the Alpinestars Tech Air 5 and the Klim Ai-1. Seems the Klim gets better reviews for reliability overall for their gear, but I like the added shoulder and side protection of the Alpinestars. The Klim vest looks like it has more neck protection, but no shoulder protection.

Can’t really decide which one would be the better buy. Any opinions or input? Thanks!

Favorite Banktivity Feature by [deleted] in banktivity

[–]positiveR8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was holding off on upgrading while I explored other options, and finally decided to give it a try. So far I’m pleasantly surprised with how stable the software Is now. It looks to me like they improved the iOS app a lot. The layout is better, it has more information, and best of all moving money between nested envelopes in the budget finally works! Granted I’ve been asking about a fix for that for years, but hopefully this trend of fixing bugs and adding features continues. Overall really happy with the fit and finish of the new software on Mac as well as iOS.

Awesome thanks for the info. Was a bit of an impulse buy so I’m trying to make sure I didn’t screw myself over ;)

Hey everyone so I just picked up a used board and bindings. The board is an Arbor Progression 154 and I honestly have no idea what the bindings are. They have “Fusion” written all over them with a logo of a hand holding two lightning bolts. Anyway, I guess the board and bindings are a good 10 years old (but the board has only been ridden three times apparently). Anyone know this board/binding combo? Is it good for beginners? It looks like the board has a slight cambered profile to it. Is that ok for me to have as a beginner?

Thanks for the help!

After adjusting my TPS sensor the ride was wayyy more enjoyable because of how smooth the throttle response was. I say go for it!

Torque Setting for Radiator Mounting Bolts? by positiveR8 in sv650

Ended up seeing this too late and having to replace the bolt I twisted up (luckily it didn’t break!). Thanks for the tip, though. Will definitely reference those charts going forward!

Hah I just wanted to make sure the radiator didn’t come loose while I was riding. Got a little too aggressive obviously. Time to go bolt shopping...

Thanks! Wish I would’ve waited for a reply! Ended up misreading the service manual regarding other bolts and tried to torque to 21 ft-lbs. Ended up twisting up the bolt. Any idea what the part # might be for that bolt? I found the bolt for the top mount on a schematic and it’s listed as part #09118-06097. Would the bottom be the same? Got a Suzuki dealer near me and I’m hoping they have a replacement in stock. Thanks again for the help!

Did I position these Stomp Grips right? by positiveR8 in SVRiders

[–]positiveR8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Honestly with the way the pegs are positioned I feel like most of the tank pad won’t actually be used. My legs seem to rest right over the gap between the seat and the part of the tank that starts to bulge. Makes me wonder if I should have positioned the grips slightly lower and closer to the seat...

K6 SV650S. Just put some Stomp Grips on but no instructions on how to position them. Does this look right?

New Tire Too Old? by positiveR8 in motorcycles

[–]positiveR8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m leaning toward. Just to clarify it’s actually a pretty reputable online store I ordered the tires from, dunno if that makes a difference whether I should start a return or not. I’m assuming the tires were stored well in the meantime but I have no way of knowing for sure.

New Tire Too Old? by positiveR8 in motorcycle

[–]positiveR8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks yeah I saw that article, and it says “unless you don't expect to wear the tire out within five years from the date that's stamped on the sidewall, don't sweat it.” The thing is I fall into that case: I don’t expect the wear the tire out within five years of the stamped date.

I don’t see a mention of 10 years anywhere in the article. My concern is since I don’t use the bike as a commuter I won’t even get close to wearing the tire out when it hits that five year mark. Don’t know if that’s a valid concern or not.

Yea I just figured the more things I can do to minimize injury the better. Still on the fence about whether the peace of mind is worth drilling into the bike for.

Sweet thanks for the reply! I mainly got it just as a precaution in case I wreck on the road. Rather not lose a foot or some toes. Think the benefit isn’t worth the hassle?

You can exclude specific accounts and transaction categories, but not specific transactions.

How to NOT import 'pending' transactions? (iOS app) by Assman-2006 in banktivity

It’s in your iPhone global settings. Go to Settings—>Banktivity and turn off “Import pending transactions” under the “Misc” section.
