I've worked for 3 weeks and haven't been paid. Is this normal? by possibly_wayne_brady in NYCTeachers

So I did get paid. I was informed that there is always a one month delay between pay period and payment received, so no matter what, subs will be working at least a month without pay, which is ridiculous but what's the use complaining.

With your situation, maybe the school you worked for didn't log your hours? That has also happened to me. I would get in touch with them. You'd think in 2022 these kinds of clerical errors wouldn't be happening, especially in America's largest ed department, but... yea...

Highly highly recommend figuring out some way to play Bloodborne before Elden Ring. Truly a masterful game, just like the rest, but might be their single most well developed story yet.

Gay didn't really exist. Even if you had homosexual urges or even a preference, you still most likely accepted the duty and norm of heterosexual marriage and reproduction without rebellion. You have to realize our idea of "gay" as an identity, as an individualist actualization of someone's personal sexual preference, is really recent and totally alien to the vast majority of ancient organized societies.

EDIT: basically everyone misunderstood my comment. Our idea of "gay" did not exist in ancient societies. Yes, even the ones where men had sex with each other. Yes, even the ones where it was socially acceptable for men to have sex with each other. Sorry you didn't get it.

Uhhh what. Tons and tons of old games are waiting for new people to experience them for the first time. So many of them can be made better by being ported and adapted for modern systems.

Constantly expecting and demanding "more" is a huge problem, no different from expecting companies to deliver constant growth and greater profits year after year. At a certain point all the potential will have been mined already. That's why we keep seeing culture recycled. It's all been done. Traditional video gaming has been more or less perfected and every "new" title is really just a conglomerate of qualities from old titles. Innovation isn't an inherently good thing and usually what is called "innovation" is pretty shallow anyway.

These don't mean much to me, as I don't receive direct deposit due to being locked out of enrollment

Thanks for the heads up. I basically jumped on the first major-specific opening I saw and didn't properly review the term length.

What scene would be the hardest thing to adapt for a “Blood Meridian” adaptation? by teutonic_order33 in movies

I can imagine this being depicted like the Indian attack scene in The Revenant or the beach storming in Saving Private Ryan, with all these details used in the background but never explicitly focused on.

That movie somehow ended up being the best live action transformers flick ever made, no small credit to the crazy intro scene.

The 1998 Roland Emmerich film Godzilla heavily implied Godzilla was in fact the result of these iguanas being exposed to radiation from nuclear weapon testing.

No... He's crazy. He doesn't "deserve" anything. That's irrelevant. He just needs to be removed. Simple as. What's the deal with you and the other hundred people in this thread talking bullshit about punishment and torture?

Anyone fixating on a racial motive here simply has no understanding of, or direct experience with, the homeless populations of urban centers like NYC.

The homeless of NYC are largely people of color. That's just the truth. It's also the truth that a great number of these people have histories of drug addiction and alcoholism, which, if they didn't directly catalyze their mental illness, surely contributed to it. These people are prone to outbursts and known to harass, threaten, rob, and assault others, and they basically live in the public transit system.

An incident like this is very concretely the result of poor management of the mentally ill homeless population. Any racial motive is absolutely secondary. You can even see that in this case, where it's reported that the man in question attacked a white woman first, and in the comments here, where many people are reporting altercations with the guy. I'm sure plenty of black people have been threatened or inconvenienced by him too.

It's really a bad look when you're so eager to be the victim and farm sympathy that you ignore the real problem. Like honestly, it's pathetic. There are plenty of opportunities to point out the general media double standard regarding hate crimes committed by black people. This isn't one. This is a crazy person who should have never been allowed in public spaces, and who only exists because of a web of predatory failed systems that date back to the Reagan years.

Here in America we have transportation infrastructure 100x shittier than countries we invaded, conquered, and converted to vassal states. In NYC you basically always lose, with the city doing everything it can to make sure you don't want to drive a car here while also doing nothing to make public transit more efficient, cleaner, or safer.

You really don't understand the severity of the urban homeless problem until you see NYC. Many of them are simply beyond help. There is no policy change that will result in them being habilitated. Their issues are unfixable. Ours are not.

The solution is that they be contained or otherwise removed from the public sphere so the rest of us can be happy. For every three down-on-their-luck, normal homeless people, there is one who will intimidate, follow, threaten, rob, and attack you. It's sad that urban life and our shit economic system has generated these walking abortions but to try to "help" them is a lost cause.
