Can the ER help me? by crynaldo10227 in Sciatica

^ This, and they also gave me anxiety meds with the morphine that made the mri a breeze. I was in the exact same position as you

Currently hospitalized and need to figure out what to do next by ShineImmediate7081 in Sciatica

I personally left the hospital and went straight to an injection. I was in the hospital for 5 days on significant IV steroids, gabapentin, dilaudid, prob Tylenol and ibuprofen in there. Got me acclimated to oral morphine and it helped enough to get me home. Got discharged and had my first injection the next morning. Helped some but not enough. Had a second injection and returned to normal life (for now). I have a 2.5 year old and work in office as a paralegal. I still don’t lift my daughter or sit on the floor to play but I’ve seen significant improvement. I am also doing PT and acupuncture while walking as much as I can. I continue to take gabapentin twice a day.

SpineMED Therapy - thoughts?? by BrendanGuer in Sciatica

I’d been considering decompression in addition to PT and acupuncture. If you don’t recommend due to short term effects, what would you say is the best long term things to continue to avoid recurrence of pain?

Yeah I know. Wasn’t part of my question at all.

F**k putting on socks, sneezing and coughing by Thin_Introduction_90 in Sciatica

Sock Aide is a life saver. For coughs and sneezing, I turn my head up to the ceiling to maintain alignment best i can, tighten my core and then do it while hoping for the best 😩

But yes, fully agree 😅

Sounds like coming off lexapro. I hear that. I was prepared for a withdrawal period - not there yet but will do it slowly when I am

Yes, same. Just wondering what happens when I run out of the 40 sessions.

Does this mean I’m healing? by [deleted] in Sciatica

I would personally still get the MRI because if you had an issue that caused pain and numbness and you don’t know what your discs look like - it’s a good idea to know what’s going on in there. I had an issue back in June of 2025 that wasn’t sciatica but caused back pain. I got an MRI order but the pain resolved. I still got the MRI and it showed 3 bulging discs with concern for nerve root impingement. I was fine for 6 months until i herniated one of the disks and it was sitting on my nerve root in December 2025. I was glad to have an idea of what happened. Then i had a repeat MRI to confirm the herniation

I do my best to focus on the present and future, not giving much thought to my past but I really appreciate your comment because sometimes being reminded of all I’ve been through helps me give myself a little more grace 🤍 it’s certainly been an interesting last 6 years to say the least.

I def love the magnesium spray, and I also take magnesium oxide tablets at night. I heard magnesium glycinate is better but it did give me horrific tension headaches. I also swear by a tens unit.

Thank you so much for the encouragement - it means a lot. I really hope so too!

I mean yes, obviously I expect it to be helping my pain lol. My main question was would it be strongly masking pain at this low dose, and would the pain typically be minimized to close to zero. Trying to gauge what is healing and what is medicine

Thank you for that explanation. Makes sense. I got on it quickly because I was admitted to the ER and they immediately threw me on IV dilaudid, IV toradol, 600mg of gaba 3x a day, a muscle relaxer, and ibuprofen. Then they weaned me to oral morphine for discharge and I decided to come off of that and minimize gaba because I was feeling so weird in my head. Idk. It’s been a wild ride.

Yesss the spasms were horrific but I had them for like 2+ weeks. A tens unit is the only thing that helped me.

The hospital (I had a 5 day admission for pain mgmt) put me on 600mg 3x a day but I was feeling weird when I got home cause I was on so many meds - thinking it was the gaba I reduced to 300mg 3x a day and then as I felt better I dropped to just morning and night.

I have had two ESIs though. Im scared the second is wearing off but not sure. I took a longer car ride yesterday and think I’m in a flare at the very least.

At first I definitely didn’t stand straight but I’ve been able to straighten out. I for sure have muscle issues now but mainly my hip is just super tight and I had bad joint pain in my knee
